I am trying to setup Emby on Mint. I have very little experience with Linux, and I am bombing out with permissions. I'd appreciate some help with this, I am dead in the water. I need to add the /home/bj/Videos as a library and give Emby permission.

Thanks guys

For starters you should read through the permissions thread linked below. But DO NOT go straight to the "solution" post. IMO it is not the solution, only works for very specific conditions and should not have been marked as such in the first place.

For example on Fedora this worked for me

sudo setfacl -m user:emby:rxw /run/media/username

probably should put it in crontab so don’t have to do it each time I boot up

When I boot up also have to disconnect any external hard drives otherwise the kernel segfaults.

Also do this to start up emby

sudo systemctl start emby-server
