WHIMWHAM 0 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 I picked up a new series of albums. Emby keeps combining all four discs as if they are one album. The string in the "album" fields are similar, but are different. Now even if I change the "album" field to something completely different and off-the wall ("ZZ Top's Greatest Hits"), it still combines them all into the same album. The problems are: 1). Playing the big "mega-album" plays all the track #1's, then all the track #2's, etc. 2) THere is no way to play any one of them in sequence. HELP!!!!
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 sounds like you do not have metadata on the discs in the songs e.g. This is a song from a 2 disc album - which works fine in emby note discnumber, disctotal - the above all came via Musicbrainz Picard app totaldiscs and totaltracks(of disc 2) etc - i dont think are used by emby - but easy to check with a simple test
WHIMWHAM 0 Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 I customized the ID3 tracks myself. Arduously. Painstakingly. Just now, I removed all the files from my library folder, changed literally everything to something completely different, then added them back into the library, which seemed to work. Then I changed one of the discs back to the proper tags. All good. Then a second one. They remained distinct. Then I did the other two and BAM - grouped them all right back into the same album title. FRUSTRATING. It is four distinct albums (not separate discs of a multi-disc set): "John Zorn's Bagatelles, Volume 1" by Mary Halvorson Quartet "John Zorn's Bagatelles, Volume 2" by Erik Friedlander and Michael Nicolas "John Zorn's Bagatelles, Volume 3" by Trigger "John Zorn's Bagatelles, Volume 4" by Ikue Mori
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 you dont have a discnumber for each disc! fix that and it should work unless you have other issues with you metadata
WHIMWHAM 0 Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 (edited) But they are *not* separate discs in one album, they are completely separate albums. The disc number for each disc is "1." If they have separate album titles, they SHOULD be grouped in separate albums, right???? Even if they are close, they should be separate, right? Edited March 10, 2021 by WHIMWHAM
WHIMWHAM 0 Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 And here's the thing - even after I changed the album title for one of them to "Purple Haze Sessions" and one of them to "The Best of ZZ Top" and another to :Trigger Trigger" and another to "The Best of Creed," it STILL put them all in the same album!
Solution PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 10, 2021 Solution Posted March 10, 2021 your discnumber field looks blank in the image you posted no - depends on other things like mbz ID's and folder structure and do you have each volume in a separate album folder? folder format should be root\Albumartist\album\song any folder with songs is assumed to be an Album - which might be your problem

WHIMWHAM 0 Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 did it again - changed literally everything same result

That solved it. Whew! Thanks. MAN that was frustrating.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 remember when you go to 4.6 - things are very different
