lordlance 2 Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) I have two version of The Godfather on my PC in G:\Movies\The Godfather (1972) One is called `The Godfather (1972) The Coppola Restoration - 1080p BluRay Remux AVC TrueHD 5.1 - KRaLiMaRKo.mkv` and the 'The Godfather (1972) The Coppola Restoration - 1080p Encode Esir.mkv' Since they both have a dash after 'Restoration' shouldn't they both be detected within one entry? Instead I have two entries for The Godfather. Edited March 6, 2021 by lordlance

Your movies ain't named properly, space-dash-space (" - ") should come after folder name in filename, as per KB article: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming Rename, rescan. Thanks a bunch! Fixed the issue. Do you know why Emby was being so finnicky with these files but seems to detect much more drastically differently named files without a hitch? For example I have saved two versions of Attack of Titans S01 without paying any attention to naming schemes but Emby still detected that they were variants of the same episodes.

TV Shows naming conventions is much broadly supported, due to the pure variations of 'em, plus if you have Season subfolders, placement assists there as well.
lordlance 2 Posted March 6, 2021 Author Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) My usual naming scheme for different versions is to save them in different folders with whatever names they originally had so they looked something like this: G:\Demon Slayer \\1080p Encode \\\Random Group Name.S02E09.1080p Encode.mkv \\Remux \\\Random Group Name.S02E09.Remux.mkv Emby picked it up still but it had much harder time with figuring it out with Godfather which is strange considering the difference between the two file names was so much smaller. And with Emby's capability to merge series across different folders and plethora of naming conventions supported, you got the result. Movies are stricter. Edit: To your edit: Each episode has a unique identifier in the format Season/Episode, regardless of naming convention used. So, S02E09 will ALWAYS be only that episode, regardless of suffix. As opposed to that, movies can rely only on Movie name (and often there are multiple with same name), hence the year in brackets (Year) part (and even that creates issues occasionally, so square-bracketed ID tags [tmdbid=xxxx] in folder names are also supported). So, it all boils down to properly naming/sorting your items and have a sweet experience - or not. Choice is completely yours. Edited March 6, 2021 by GrimReaper76 Response
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Your naming doesn't follow the only rule for multi-version. Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". But you can always use the plugin if you don't like the rule for server automatic grouping. Automatic version grouping for movies - Plugins - Emby Community As for TV Show yes there is a difference as there is options for merging across multiple folders.
snacks03 15 Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Sorry to nerco this topic, but I'm having a similar issue with the original Godfather 3 and the newly released directors cut. I've tried multiple ways to rename the files but both still show as separate entries. I've tried adding the tags " - directors cut" and " - theatrical cut", both with and without spaces and also only " - directors cut". I tried another movie by creating a copy then adding the tags, it was able to catch that one and merge the entries as one with the choice drop down.

So you have to add tmdbid to folder or remove from file. On 3/6/2021 at 10:42 AM, Happy2Play said: Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ".
snacks03 15 Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Thanks for the help, it was a file naming issue (commas instead of hyphens) causing the separate entries. 1
