There are no silly questions when it comes to troubleshooting (IT consultant here!). Yes I have installed my Premiere key as I am aware the Backup utility is a premiere feature.

Well, all the reasons I could've think of of why the plugin is failing have been discarded - permissions, compatibility, license - I suggest you put it on hold for the moment and wait for @cayars, he might have some insight there and/or even do a remote session, if need be. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks - I really appreciate all the ideas/help you have offered.

I am considering doing a full uninstallation of Emby server and reinstalling, just in case my installation is for some reason corrupted.

Desperate last-minute idea: do you have any removable media attached? If so, could you temporary remove it and try the plugin with C:\backups\Movies as a path?

in your log the plugin is not loading - see the two errors

have you downloaded the beta version of the plugin or the stable version?

have you tried beta and gone back to stable of the server?

I downloaded the latest 'release' version of the plugin. Unfortunately I see no options for either beta or stable for this particular plugin under the Plugin Catalog.

I am using v1.4.5 and also just tried v1.4.4 with no luck either.

My external HDD is attached at the moment (the temporary location of my media until I get a NAS). If the log (per @PenkethBoy's message) states that the plugin is not loading that may be where the issue lies as opposed to a permissions/folder issue, perhaps.

That's always a possibility, but I'd still wait for some additional input before resorting to that.

I know you said you input your Premiere Key.  But what does the status show for it?
I'd be happy to do a remote session with you to take a look and see if I notice anything or try a couple of things.

Send me a PM if you want to set this up.

Hi cayars,

Emby Premiere is showing as active. I'd be happy to have a remote session. I'll send you a private message now.

Thanks

Download and install TeamViewer from www.teamviewer.com.
PM me the Login ID and one-time use password you get on launch.

I'll login and open a chat so you know I'm connected and we'll see if we can figure out what's going on.

"I have recently had to reinstall Windows on my computer"

This is a big clue here - what support libraries does this plugin use ?

Have you installed all the latest service patches and dot net updates for example ?

Log also has GUID errors - which are not good.

Personally, I would quickly reinstall a brand new 2nd instance (use the portable install, change the port) and try and re-create the issue.

We did a remote session and it was ESET security suite causing the problem.  All is good now and backup/restore is working.

I hung around while he restored and started scanning and helped with a couple quick config and drive changes to match the old setup

I disconnected when the library scan was at 90%+ so he'll report in when it's finished.

Thanks so much for your assistance earlier. It would seem as if after pausing the ESET AntiVirus software I had installed Emby began working as expected. I have made the relevant exceptions to keep my PC protected but also to allow Emby to carry on functioning as intended.

The library scan is still going (8TB worth of content to scan on an external HDD including many TV series, it will take a little time I'd exoect). I'll report back here when it's all done and dusted.

Never have I had such friendly and speedy support from an online community, thanks all!

Well done all.

I'm curious if ESET reported anything on the scanning of the backup files in it's own logs?  I'm wondering if some sort of 'ransomware' trigger was being (badly) activated as emby presumably quickly reads all the files in that directory ?

The golden question - was ESET installed on your previous emby install, if yes, why is this different ?

Sorry for the late reply, as a new member I couldn't reply any more yesterday - I hit my limit!

It's probably for the best I couldn't reply, as the scan of my content took well into the night. It finished this morning and everything has been A-OK. No problems thus far.

ESET was installed beforehand, but I cannot remember if I installed Emby prior or post ESET being live on the PC. It could have made a difference Emby was able to install correctly, uninhibited by ESET's overzealous protection. This time around I installed Emby post ESET being live.

Regardless, it is all OK now. Thanks again all for your help and contributions on the matter.

Glad to hear you're back up and running. Thanks for the feedback.

Hello again,

I thought I would instead reply to this thread as the issue is back I'm afraid. I have more information to share, however, which may be of note.

I recently completed another re-installation of Windows (old hardware that I'm soon replacing) and upon installing Emby from scratch and setting up a test server I note that all windows and 'save' buttons complete instantly. No endless circles of waiting indefinitely. I proceeded to restore from the latest backup I have of my Emby server configuration per my Emby Premiere subscription.

Upon restoring the database (no AntiVirus installed at any point on this install of Windows) the issue has returned. This leads me to believe that this may be an issue with my Emby server instance itself. Without trying to sound too naïve, and I may be all wrong with understanding how Emby works, but perhaps it could be something to do with the database for my server itself?

Any further assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Ben

You could try to narrow down by wiping and setting up again. But this time when doing a restore do it piece-meal or just one thing at a time restored.  You could then be able to tell what specific thing restored causes you the issue.

That could help a lot to diagnose this.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay in my reply - been very busy recently.

After a while I decided that there must be some kind of corruption in my core Emby instance, so when I recently moved computers and had to setup Emby again I decided to go for a clean slate and not restore from a backup, instead starting from scratch.

I'm pleased to confirm the issue, as expected from a new instance on a new computer, is not present. Even with ESET Antivirus installed throughout the Emby installation process (previously thought to be the cause).

I am happy to provide my old Emby backup files if you wish to use them to analyse in case it helps others out in the future?

Thanks all for your help on this matter.
