Issue with Metadata - How to prevent metadata auto reset

Dear all,

I am a premium user and the Emby is running on my Synology NAS.

Basically I have two storage, Cloud (Google Team Drive) and another  is Local (My NAS).

The NFO files used by the Google Team drive are all in Chinese and I have only Read access to the Google Team Drive, which mean I cannot edit anything on the Team Drive.

My issue is that somehow the metadata will auto reset to use the NFO file that is next to the folder (which is in Chinese).

I prefer to use English as the metadata for all libraries and attached screenshot is the setting for all my libraries on Google Team Drive.

Other than that all settings are default that include library Scan Media Library, Download Subtitles and Refresh People.

Seeking for your kind advise.

Regards,

Terence

Hi, you haven't even enabled saving to nfo files. Most likely something else outside of Emby Server is updating the nfo file, and then Emby Server is simply reading the changes. I would look into that.

Thanks for your reply Luke.

I did enable to save the metadata to nfo before, it does not help so I changed to disabled.

You are right, it could be the Google Team Drive owner has updated/recopied & pasted the nfo files or something triggers Emby simple reading the changes

I am thinking is there a way I could save the metadata into nfo files in my local drive instead of reading the nfo file that is next to the video source.

As you can see for my case, I do not have edit rights to the Team drive and I wanted to change the metadata to be my own language which causing the Emby scanning time extremely long and cannot complete.

The Google Team Drive has 8 libraries which has more than 4000 video files, each video file do have it own subtitles and nfo files.

I used rclone to mount my Google Team drive and added as Emby's libraries.

Terence

No worries, Luke.

But I hope it will be supported soon.

I think for my case I will disable to scanning schedule.

Today accidentally scan the library, somehow lot of video changed back to other language metadata or picture.

Hope this annoying issue can be rectified or improved.

Thanks,

Terence

Hi there, can you please go over an example? thanks.

@Lukewith no metadata readers, shouldn't this server just generating its own database metadata via server settings?

But yes a specific example with a server log for that example would be needed.

Thanks Luke.

Background

- Basically I have 10 libraries, 6 running remote storage (Google Cloud) & 4 running local storage (QNAP NAS).

- I use Rclone to mount the Google cloud drive on my Synology NAS & CIFS mount QNAP drive .

- The Emby is running on my Synology NAS (as the setup is easier comparing to running it on QNAP).

- Library 1 - 6 have total estimate 6k video files (Google Cloud)

- Library 7 - 10 have total less than 100 video files (QNAP local drive)

Issues

- The metadata & images will reset itself follow the content of NFO files that is next to the video file (if the scanning is trigged)

- Refer to the uploaded image "Supposed to be.png", I tried to change the metadata & image to the language I want (either by Edit Metadata, Edit Images, Identity, Refresh Metadata with Refresh all metadata or Replace existing images), however when the scanning task trigger, lot of video will reset to the language i do not want.

- Refer to the uploaded image "Chinese Poster and Chinese Metadata.png", you can see the image and metadata reset itself follow the nfo file that is next to the video source..

- Refer to the uploaded image "index issue.png". i already renamed or identified all video in this library. I clicked on the "Z" from the index list on right scroll bar however it does not bring me to the video name starts with "Z", this always happen and i cannot fixed it.

- Sometime i can change the image of the video very fast, but sometime it will failed to change or took more than 2 minutes to complete.

- Refer to the uploaded image "Paths.png", these are the paths for the caches and metadata

- Refer to the uploaded image "size.png", you can see the total size of the metadata, cache and etc is about 3.82GB, 155928 files and 54758 folders.

I hope all these issues can be rectified or fixed, it brings me bad user experiencing and frustration when using Emby.

Terence

Attached the log file.

Thanks for helping.

By the way is there a way we could stop Emby from scanning video files that is already marked as "Scanned completed"? As you can see the I have huge contents in my libraries, the scheduled scanning will take more than 10 hours and never stop, those video files already scanned will scan again and its metadata and image will be reset, eventually i have no choice to stop the scanning or restart the server.

Not sure on metadata as you have no readers so existing metadata (nfo) should be irrelevant.  But local images (with media) I can see being a issue as they take priority and that priority can not be disabled. But dev will have to comment more.

My issue is that somehow the metadata will auto reset to use the NFO file that is next to the folder (which is in Chinese).

This is the problem. Local nfo takes priority. There is currently no way to stop this. If this is what is in your nfo, Emby is going to use it.

So if one disables metadata reader the local nfo files still get read?  But the OP image above shows no readers at all.

You can't disable it in 4.5, but you will be able to in 4.6.

Cant wait to upgrade to 4.6..

Very annoying as the metadata keep resetting to use local NFO.

It's available now via Beta if you want to try it.  The beta is very mature at this point with no big issues or "gotchas". It's just getting a bit of "polish" at this point so it should be fairly safe to install at this point if you want to get a head start with it.

Found it, thanks!

Have you explored library options?

Hi, I'd start by looking at this setting in the library setup (turn on advanced options top right).
