eirik 9 Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 That would give a huge increase in user friendliness, at least for me. The need for using Kodi may then disappear. Thanks. 1 2
hamzanadim 5 Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 I agree, could we possibly revisit this post? It would really make a huge difference and from a developer's perspective I believe it's very simple to implement

It would actually be a bit tricky to design properly. Using external players is a very minority feature - meaning the vast majority of people do not use one. Therefore, dedicating screen space or interrupting standard playback workflow to allow for this option would be a no-go IMO. Either of these would need to be hidden behind an option that is defaulted off. That means that the vast majority of people who even do want this may never find it and it also increases the complexity quite a bit. Finally, every single app needs to be modified for all of this. Perhaps not as simple as you thought...?
vanor 0 Posted 35 minutes ago Posted 35 minutes ago I'll bring this up. This is a really convenient feature, as the built-in player is mostly fine, but there are 10-20% that play much better in an external player. Currently, I have to use a separate Emby ATV app to launch the external player. The checkbox for enabling the external player is already quite far down in the settings. Placing the checkbox for adding an external player button next to it seems quite sensible. As does placing the button on the same line as the "Play" button on the movie page.
