Chalklands 27 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Hi, Thought I'd ask this. Is there anyway for EMBY to automatically show the word 'Series' instead of 'Season' when adding TV series to the library (Windows), instead of having to manually change the metadata tag?
Luke 42079 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Hi, so you're saying you want to see Series 1 instead of Season 1?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 I would assume this would be for a specific set language as Series and Season are two totally different things to me.
Chalklands 27 Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 Hi. yes, British English. In the UK Series is the norm compared to Season in the US.
pwhodges 2012 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 I am barely aware of this (simply because long-running TV shows don't interest me) - but I note that the BBC's iPlayer uses "Series" in the context that you might expect "Season". It's ambiguous though, because they also use "Series" to mean, well, a whole Series. Paul
Chalklands 27 Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 (edited) Hi, In the UK, Series is generally the norm. Although US TV influence has led to Season being used as well. I just prefer Series. Edited December 16, 2020 by Chalklands
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Had this same discussion before, thought this was resolved unless something changed again. Season/Series - General/Windows - Emby Community Regional Terminology - General/Windows - Emby Community

scb99 245 Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 As a Brit I know exactly what Chalklands is getting at, but I think it's a lost cause to be honest! When I was at school a billion meant a million million (a thousand million was a "milliard") and who remembers that today... So I live with Seasons 1
Carlo 4561 Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 (edited) Hmm, and when I went to school I remember being taught seasons were times of the year. Edited December 18, 2020 by cayars
pwhodges 2012 Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 That's why anime, at least, is broadcast strictly in spring, summer, autumn, and winter seasons. Paul 1 1

Spaceboy 2573 Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 i don't think many UK users would agree with replacing "season" with series anyway. as other have said its something that has crept into the english language over the last 10 years or so and i actually think its necessary to differentiate. i mean you could go with Show Series Episode but this isnt something i would lose any sleep over 1

pwhodges 2012 Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 I am in the UK, and though old, not set in my ways - and I prefer season. Series is ambiguous in this field, which is enough reason to choose the separate word. Paul
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 IIRC we had a long discussion about Show/Series from a UK perspective never had a problem with Seasons though this is very - first world problem though and not a series show stopper 2

A while back, I think some of the translators took care of this through translations but, based on the feedback above, we probably backed off of that.
Chalklands 27 Posted December 26, 2020 Author Posted December 26, 2020 (edited) Thanks. I was just asking a question. Yes/No would suffice. I wasn't asking for anyone's opinion. I'll just change my library manually. Edited December 26, 2020 by Chalklands

Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 27, 2020 Solution Posted December 27, 2020 Currently No, there is no user or config option that you can change to allow you to have Series instead of Seasons. The majority of UK users opposed it.
