New Roku's support Atmos - Is that the same as TrueHD?

Since the 2019 and 2020 Roku's support Atmos, does that mean they will support direct audio stream of TrueHD?  or is that something different?

From Google quick search:

Dolby TrueHD is a lossless audio codec that supports up to eight audio channels on Blu-ray Disc. Dolby Atmos soundtracks, in contrast, consist of audio objects — up to 128 of them — that are mixed in a 3D soundfield during the production process.

So they are obviously something different.

Unfortunately, no.

As I understand it:

Atmos is extra metadata magic that sits on top of the audio codec.

So, Atmos can be a part of both Dolby Digital + and TrueHD.

Roku only supports the compressed DD+ variety.

Ok...thats what had me confused.  Some stuff references terminology like  "TrueHD with Dolby Atmos".

So last question if anyone knows:

When Emby transcodes from TrueHD ....will it still do 7.1 channels for an Atmos client?

Also, unfortunately no.

It ends up as 5.1.

As far as I know, there's no practical way to go beyond 5.1 on the transcoding side. It's all proprietary and expensive.

I'm in the same boat as you though, so if anyone else knows how to make it happen, I'm all ears.

Also,I should mention that the Shield can supposedly handle TrueHD natively, but that appears to be the only option.

Yea I saw that.  But $150 is pretty steep!
