When you use playback correction, you are telling the app to try to play the item in a different way. The first time it went to direct stream (remux) and the second one a full transcode. That is why it is transcoding. As for the original issue, did the firmware on device change recently or any other equipment? Also, did you create these yourself? Unusual to see such an old series in HEVC.
