Playback Error, Too Many Errors, Moving On

Hello,

Within the last 2-3 weeks, I have started seeing the "Playback Error, Too Many Errors, Moving On" error quite frequently, on nearly every video I attempt to watch. Prior to this, I never saw this error before. Also, playback is often interrupted by a "Loading" buffering screen, which never happened before. Both of these problems started at the same time.

After receiving the "Playback Error, Too Many Errors, Moving On" error, I can replay the same video from the point it stopped, and it will continue to play without problems.

Spec Details:

- I am seeing these errors on my Roku Premiere Plus, Model 4630X. It looks like app version 4.0.4

- I am NOT seeing these errors in my browser or on my TCL television, located in another room.

To attempt to resolve the issue, I have reset my Roku player by unplugging it, waiting a few minutes, then plugging it back in again. This did not resolve the problem.

I've recreated the problem just now. I'm attaching the embyserver log and the most recent transcode logs from a few minutes ago.

Please let me know if there's any other information I should include. I'm not very knowledgable about video codecs and things like that.

Thanks!

You may need to DISABLE Hardware Throttling. Do not disable hardware acceleration entirely. Just disable throttling for the time being until we investigate more. This is on our plate to complete. This is related to the new Roku firmware 9.3.x that has just pushed to "The Wild". Now that normal users are getting it rather than just Beta Testers the issues and bugs start to get reported. I doubt Roku has very many reliable/consistent Beta testers because of their stringent NDA requirements.

But I digress. We can only work around the issue presently and that might mean extending the buffer for the throttle.

See this thread and this post:

Note: Your TCL Roku TV is still on 9.2 and still functions normally. Your Roku Premiere Plus on the other hand has updated to 9.3 and has inherited the new bug/issue. We apologize and will try to pin down the culprit and get a work-around/solution out as quickly as we can. Thanks for reporting. Please report any and all issues. We love people like you. :)

Thank you @speechles for responding to my post. I searched the emby forums (poorly, I admit) adn couldn't find this solution. But you pointed me right to it. I figured out how to disable throttling in Emby Server (for anyone in the future who needs it, it's on the Server > Transcoding screen. Uncheck the "Enable Throttling" box, then click SAVE).

After disabling throttling, I didn't experience any of the loading issues at all. I also have not seen the "too many errors" since.

So thank you. I know this is just a workaround until the Roku 9.3 update can be figured out. But at least it's all good for me now!

Hi there, if you turn it back on, does it happen again?

Hi @Luke. Thanks for following up with me.

Yes, I just enabled throttling and got a similar bad experience as from before. While I never received the "too many errors" critical error, the playback did give me a "Loading..." message three times, as well as five or six pauses and skips during a 30 minute video.

So I am going to go back to disabling throttling for now.

Hi there,

Just got Emby and am seeing the same error message, except that;

The error seems to be restricted to libraries.  I have 8 library files at the moment and in 2 of those libraries none of the movies will play, however the other libraries play without problem.

The issue has occurred on my Win10 PC, my Smart TV's media player and 2 different Roku units.

I didn't have throttling enabled when I checked that setting after finding this post.  Running Emby as an Adult Only server, so I've disabled DLNA and also UPnP.  Issues have happened both before and after turning off those settings.

Running Emby on a Qnap TS-453A NAS.

Any suggestions?

I'll try deleting and reloading the libraries, but is this going to be an ongoing issue?

Thanks,

What type of files are the ones not playing?

I ended up making new folders in the windows environment. I think there was something funky when I named it on the Mac and moved it to the PC.

Looks like we’re Gucci now.
