How to replace with higher quality without changing 'date added'

Hello,

I have a number of old .avi movies I would like to replace with higher quality .mkv files. I don't want these movies to show up as newly added movies. In the couple of tests I've done, they always do. I have deleted the .avi before and after copying the .mkv file, and it always shows up as a new file. How do I preserve date added? the only thing that is different is the extension, so the filename is still the same as all the metadata files.

All .nfo and image files are stored with the movie and multiple movies are in the same folder.

Just modify the 'Date Added:" in the Metadata to a date in the past - or the original added date if you wish and they will not appear as 'New' Items.  If doing a couple, manually is fine, but if doing lots, then there are a few plugin's that can automate this for you.

Since I opened the topic, I figured out that these movies are so old, their .nfo files were NOT created by Emby and do NOT have a date added value in them. I was thrown off because when I view the metadata in Emby it shows the correct date added, so I assumed it was in the .nfo file. If I click save in the Emby metadata browser, then a new .nfo is created with all the old metadata AND a date added value.

 

As @@rbjtech said doing a couple manually is fine, but I do have a lot to do. I will have a look through the plugins, but any recommendations would be appreciated.

Well, This was NOT the answer. When the files first copied over after I saved a new .nfo file WITH the correct date added, everything was fine. After a while, Emby replaced the original date added in the .nfo file with today's date, which is the created date on the file, since it was copied. If I moved the files the date is a couple of days ago which is the creation date of the file.

 

So, How do I keep Emby from changing the existing date added in an existing .nfo file?

Only way updating a file quality should be a issue, is when you do not save metadata with media.  If you do not save metadata with media, the item is removed from the database then re-add, so all previous info relating to the media is lost, this would have nothing to do with userdata/played state.

I'll try some more tests. I DO keep all the metadata files with the media files, so that's not the problem.
