Question,  Is playback on Theater supported by 127.0.0.0:<port>?

I ask as I am trying to set the Media server to also be a player.  I noticed that if I start a file copy TOO the Media player which is the EMBY SERVER that playback will begin stuttering and eventually buffer in Theater.  So I had the Idea to connect the local THEATER install on loopback to avoid the THEATER to SERVER traffic from leaving the device and avoid actual 'network use' without using a external player.

Is this supported and or does it have any weird gotchas to look out for?

Indeed,  monitored it and it does not use any external traffic for playback,  seems to work.  I will test loading the actual nic and see if playback is affected... I 'think' it should not ... but Windows is Windows so I will advise.

Test failed,  :(  It still stutters playback terribly to transfer a file 'to the server' while using Theater 'on the server' to play files.  Drat. 

 

I assume this is expected since the servers's disk I/O is tied up on the file transfer? 

 

The incoming file transfer is @ 104MB\s (Windows server) over 1GB wire.

It could be, but we'd have to look at an example.

Are there additional log settings to set?  I did not see any 'errors' but I am unfamiliar with Emby's logs

I upped my TCP transmit and received buffers on my NIC,  and in two rounds of testing have not seen the issue.  stay tuned ... do more comprehensive testing later.

I am calling it resolved. After upping the buffers on the NIC in windows the issue seems to no longer occur. :) 

 

for others reference : Control Panel > Network and sharing center > change adapter settings > right click + properties of your NIC > 'configure' > Advanced > 

   ---max out Transmit buffers

   ---max out receive buffers

I've had simular problems and after long investigating it, it became clear that the problem was generated by my internet router: the firmware of the router caused so called NAT loopback error and eventually crashed the router-restarted-crashed-etc.

 

Thus at my situation the problem didn't come from Emby, but a NAT loopback error of my router...
