jasonmcroy 316 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Hey everyone. I am trying out Emby server on a RPI 4 and I am having an issue that may be simple but I am not sure what to do with it. So, I am running regular Raspbian. I downloaded the server onto it and ran it. All good. I have an external drive attached to the RPI that I want to use for the cache folder and metadata folder. However, when I try to find that folder via the UI on the Emby dashboard it won't go far enough into the folder to show me that drive. My external drive is located at "/media/pi/b9ffd946-de18-4fd0-83be-1b7b79e83caa". However, when I go to advance settings and search for that folder the furthest I can get to is "/media/pi" and the next screen doesn't show me anything. I hope I am writing this in a way that makes sense. Here is a screen shot:
Solution Luke 42078 Posted March 22, 2020 Solution Posted March 22, 2020 Well the user interface needs to be improved but it means the server does not have permissions to that folder. This might help: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/32218-file-permissions-guide-for-new-linux-users/ 1
jasonmcroy 316 Posted March 22, 2020 Author Posted March 22, 2020 Thanks @@Luke - I am not the most knowledgeable on Linux, especially when it comes to permissions. I will look over your link and see what I can accomplish.
jasonmcroy 316 Posted March 22, 2020 Author Posted March 22, 2020 Thanks again @@Luke - I was able to grant the permissions needed to let Emby have access and I learned quite a little bit about handling permissions. It is my weakest point with Linux to be honest. So, thank you for pointing out that thread (I did look for a thread but I never came across that one) and answering me so quickly (as always).
