Remember version in Continue Watching/Resume

Currently if you're part way through a multi version movie, and go back to it, the default version is whatever the default version would normally be. It ought to default to the version that's in progress.

I have just played a 1080p version of a movie, but when I stopped, exited Emby and restarted Emby, the default is 4K.

 

I think it defaults to the best quality to match the device it's playing on.

It should remember your subtitle and audio selection too. I turned on subtitles for a movie 2 days ago, but when I started it back up yesterday the subtitles were off.

Hi.  This  has been discussed in a few places but the version that is selected is dependent on the device.  Our multi-version system is designed for different qualities of the same item even though some people use it for different cuts.

Then redesign it. Multiple cuts are pretty common.

Usually I using mkvtoolnix or Audacity to create audio tracks. Sometimes it's impossible to create audio track so using 2 video files one in  one language, other in different language. 

Emby always choose video file with best video quality.

The issue is that Emby conflates two different ideas of "versions".  What's needed is to properly separate those concepts and handle them differently.

As a user when I think of "versions of a film" it's different cuts, different content.  Examples would be a director's cut and a theatrical cut.  In some cases the differences are drastic and even have different titles - Paroxismus (1969) is a good example of this, and there are quite a few more in my collection where Emby's interference is unwelcome.  Different versions should be chosen based only on user interaction, and should be "sticky" in the way OP suggests.

What Emby thinks of as "versions" and tries to automate, is not so much about different versions but different formats.  For example, I can transcode a 1080p film to 720p and then it's entirely reasonable to automatically select which format to play based on the device capabilities - and it should do so only within the same version of the film.

We don't "conflate" them.  We just only support different qualities at this time.  Different editions is on our list for the future.
