skidmarks 199 Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 (edited) So i am confused in regards to the old backdrop files i put some time into years and years ago. Are they still recognized in emby today? Checked the wiki support pages and this is what i found: \Movies \300 (2006) backdrop.ext backdrop1.ext backdrop2.ext backdrop3.ext \TV \Glee (2009) backdrop.ext backdrop1.ext backdrop2.ext backdrop3.ext \Music \Artist Name backdrop.ext backdrop1.ext backdrop2.ext backdrop3.ext So i am thinking that backdrop files are still viable. Also thinking i never named them as backdrop.ext. So IF i change all these files to backdrop.ext.jpg will emby recognize them? (Bonehead Brain Failure) I got confused when i was testing these changes and i went in to manually add a few of these backdrops to a movie and it created fanart named files in the directory? Should i just rename all of these backdrop files fanart? Forget the backdrop naming all together? I can rename these pretty quickly... just trying to figure out what is the correct terminology so emby can utilize all of these "backdrops". Thanks in Advance... Edited February 16, 2020 by skidmarks
ebr 16185 Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Hi. ".ext" in those examples just means whatever image extension they are. e.g. jpg, png...
skidmarks 199 Posted February 16, 2020 Author Posted February 16, 2020 (edited) Hi. ".ext" in those examples just means whatever image extension they are. e.g. jpg, png... Duh... my brain! .ext = extension So why doesn't movies for example show my backdrops? I have to add them manually. I also just checked a quick music artist. Although i have 6 backdrops in the directory, only one is shown in "edit images"? Edited February 16, 2020 by skidmarks
Solution Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 16, 2020 Solution Posted February 16, 2020 That is exactly how mine are and see no issue. You will probably have to go over a specific example. As for image names I am pretty sure that is the Compatible/Legacy option in the system.xml (<ImageSavingConvention></ImageSavingConvention>). 1

For some reason, all of those old background images were added to my library as background-1 / background-2 and so on... I haven't done backgrounds since i think the metabrowser project died off years ago. I am renaming all of these files. As i do this, and refresh, the images are populating into emby. Thanks! Ceten 27 Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 I just noticed the same thing. My recent series are using fanart.jpg while the old ones have backdrop.jpg files, so obviously both work I'm just curious if the convention on (default) image naming changed in the past years(some on my folders were even used with the old MB2)?

Mb2 did not support fanart.jpg images. It was backdrop only.

So the default name for backdrops has changed from backdrop.jpg to fanart.jpg? Just checked and it seems to have been like that for years but I only noticed it today Edited May 26, 2021 by Ceten typo
