Can't connect remotely.....

I've searched all over for some kind of solution, and nothing seems to work.

I can connect through LAN with no problems whatsoever. But as soon as i turn off wifi on my phone and try a remote connection, I just get timeouts and errors.

I have Emby installed on my pc temporarily until I get a compatible nas set up (I want to make sure I can get it working before I invest further) and am trying to connect with my tablet using Kodi with "Emby for Kodi" installed. I can connect through LAN using Kodi and a browser on multiple devices (phone, tablet, pc) and all is good. But nothing remotely.

I have forwarded port 8096 on BOTH my router AND my modem for the IP of my pc (IPv4 copied from cmd ipconfig output).

I have DISABLED windows firewall.

I have DISABLED 3rd party firewall (avast).

I have tried canyouseeme, and EVERY port I put in says it's closed.

I have tried alternative ports for emby and adjusted the settings in my modem and router to match.

I've tried connecting both directly using the public IP shown on Emby's dashboard typed into a browser (yes, with the port), and using Emby Connect.

I've even tried using https instead of http even though I know that shouldn't make any difference at all.

EDIT: I also tried disabling the firewall in both my router and my modem...

I've been at this for 12 hours now... I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Please bless me with your wisdom!

If your ports say they're closed, that's your problem. No need to look at other things until that gets resolved.

Yea, I've read that in all the other topics dealing with the same problem. Hence the port forwarding. I can't figure out how to get them open. Any suggestions?

Also, I tried Plex, and that connected through my phone ok.

Have you read the Connectivity information in the Emby knowledge base ?

Perhaps your ISP is blocking the ports you are trying to use?

Can you compare the port forwarding rule for the other guys vs. the one you setup for Emby?

My mistake. I had wifi turned on. Plex doesnt work either. It will show that it's connected for a few seconds, then it changes.

I did read the connectivity guide, but that basically just says to set up port forwarding.

I thought maybe it was the ISP blocking the ports, which is why I tried others as well.

On canyouseeme nothing works. 80, 443, 8096, and dozens of others.

OK ok... I got it connected. I went into my Modem and unticked a box for something dealing with bridging. The public ip is different now, and I'm wondering if that ip is going to change when i restart the system. But now I have a new problem. I can't connect back into my modem anymore (192.168.x.x).

If it does you could always use a free DDNS, right?

If you have a router sitting behind your modem, you need to bridge them, which is the feature you just disabled.  Without them bridged you are likely double NAT'd and will have all sorts of IP conflict issues.  The likely reason you got a new IP is because previously your 2nd router may have been reporting it's MAC address to your ISP (since they were bridged), and by disabling bridging likely switched MAC reporting to the 1st router, thus requiring a DNS lease refresh and a new IP.

Who is your ISP and are you on fiber?
