Migrating from Windows to Linux

I've used the backup tool to successfully migrate from my Windows server to Linux, but obviously the library directories needed to be located. The issue that I'm having is that I had a TV show with a ton of metadata that didn't detect and I had to enter manually. Is there a way to migrate this data over to Linux?

What do you mean metadata that didn't detect?  Where is/was the metadata saved?

I suppose "where is/was the metadata saved" is a part of my question. The metadata manager shows the seasons/episodes all categorized. I've enabled saving metadata to .nfo, but, I'll be honest, I've found the discussions on how .nfos are handled confusing, given that I can't locate an .nfo file anywhere on the server. Is this a file that should be generated that I could move into the content directory of the Linux server?

If the option to write metadata to nfo is enabled the metadata should be with your media.  If it is not with your media then I would guess a permissions issue  not allowing Emby to write to that location and all information is only written in the library.db.

If you only just enabled the nfo saving option all media would have to be re-saved as enabling the option only applies to new media..

When you say, "all media would have to be re-saved," you mean that I would have to remove the library directory, add it back, and edit the metadata again? I do actually see that a video I just added has an .nfo file.

Does this mean that there isn't a way to migrate the metadata for the TV series that I added before enabling that option?

If you use the metadata editor and just click save, that will also generate nfo files for items that don't currently have one. But I imagine you want to do this for everything all at once, so yes his suggestion will work as well as forcing a metadata refresh on the entire library.

So I was able to generate all the .nfo files. Thanks! Here's my follow-up issue. Menu options for Window sand Linux (both v. 4.3.0.30) are different. There does not seem to be any option anywhere to enable .nfo on Linux. What's the deal, or what am I missing?

They are the same. Where are you looking?

You can see from the previous screencap and this one that there are settings available on 192.168.1.10 (Windows) that aren't showing up on .2 (Linux).

Did you uninstall the nfo metadata plugin? That would explain that. You'll need to reinstall it from the plugin catalog.

I didn't uninstall it, but adding it took care of it. Thanks for all your help!
