Heckler 147 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Could we please have the suggested list back when viewing TV shows in the browser, because in there it lists every show and which episode is next which makes it very easy for people to catch up on the next episode of whichever shows they are currently watching. Now you have to go searching through because it's only listing the latest additions, which means episodes are shown that may be much later in the season than the viewer has reached. I know we had the 'latest' before... I just really dislike the 'suggested' list being removed in this build. It's very confusing because features that work perfectly and serve a purpose get suddenly removed without a good reason (as far as I can see)... Right now for me, the newest build is worse than the one I had... I went away for a few days, came back and booted up the media server only to find the changes were made and server rebooted without me knowing... and if I had known and had a choice, I wouldn't have allowed this latest build. It might be a minor thing for some.. but to me it's a HUGE inconvenience because I relied on the suggested list to remind me what shows I needed to catch up on... and as soon as you add a new show as I did last week. The entire latest list is filled with that one show and you can't see anything else at all... rendering even the latest list useless. Please add it back.
Solution Luke 42078 Posted June 8, 2014 Solution Posted June 8, 2014 You know it's right on the home page right? 1
Heckler 147 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 Erm.... nope... I didn't know that... and now I feel kinda silly. 1
Luke 42078 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 It's ok. Sorry to move things around on you. It's just a natural evolution process that has to happen every now and again. 1
jhoff80 94 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I do realize it's on the homepage, but it's kind of illogical. If someone wants the next episode of a TV show, it makes far more sense that they would go into the TV show view first. The homepage should be reserved for things that affect the entire library, like latest and resume. I've had complaints from 3 (out of 4 total) users already too. 1
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 As a link to an app page, it wouldn't cause any harm to have it in both locations. 1
Luke 42078 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Anytime you make a change like this, you have to separate the complaints - there will be one group who complains just because it's different, and another who complains because they actually prefer the way it was before. I don't think it's illogical at all because why should the home page be dumb? It's much more powerful when personalized to show suggested content to watch, and that's what this is. Eventually as channels and live tv progress, you could see things like Resume, Next Up and Suggestions, Favorites pull content from all three places. That would be pretty cool. So I understand your point, however we're thinking in terms of chess movies, three, four, five moves down the line, and you're only basing this off of what you know right now in the present. However that said, duplicating it in the tv section is a possibility, if enough feedback points us in that direction.
Heckler 147 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 I can see it from both sides, and I admit I was used to where it was and thought removing it was horrible... now I know it's just been moved and I need to navigate to it in a different manner. I was more concerned that the function/feature had been removed than where it was... I had no idea it had been moved as the way i navigated within the browser meant I'd never have seen it unless I was told where it now was. However... I do agree that having it under TV strikes me as more logical... but I understand that the software evolves and that some changes are needed/work great and some may be an experiment that doesn't always work. I'm glad that we are able to give feedback on changes... even if we (I) completely missed how the same thing was implemented elsewhere... This is the bit where we really need a D'OH emoticon... well I Need one. It must be hard for the devs to figure out what the rest of us users want, so they go with what seems right to them and await feedback.
The Governor 1 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The Upcoming shows is a really handy feature, I can see the logic of It being in both places to be honest, I quite like it being on the home page because I can look in one place and see all upcoming shows relevant to me... 1
Luke 42078 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Yea I mean, definitely leave your feedback. There's no problem having it in both places if we see enough people want that. We're all on the same team.
Beardyname 198 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Is suggested and Next up baked together ? It seems that I can not for the life of me find out where suggested is. Next up is something I use on a regular basis, but It does not seem to give suggestions.
Beardyname 198 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 (edited) for tv they are the same thing. That explains it I for one don't think they should exist on different places, having one on the home-page makes it quicker to get to (for me at least). However, is there a plan to add suggested movies or similar to the next up/suggested on the front page ? or will the suggested for the movies be under the view movies ? Edited June 8, 2014 by Beardyname
Luke 42078 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 i think in general it's still evolving. it's the first attempt at a smart home page for the web client, and i imagine there are still more improvements to make.
Beardyname 198 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Sounds good to me! Having tv-next up on the front page does make the most sense since It's what most people will be using regularly, suggested for movies happens much less. (at least for me)
Luke 42078 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 movie suggestions are hard to do, that's why latest makes more sense for them. for tv, it's easy because there's no real decision making being made by the server. it's just pick whatever your next episodes are.
Heckler 147 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 For me, I never used suggested or movies, only TV... So I guess that's why I am on the 'essential' for TV side of things. On another note, the 'smart' home in the browser throws up a few visual issues for me. I am seeing multiple types of images (with coverart treatments) on this page. For example I see a backdrop image for a movie I just added, then I see a few thumbs for TV shows and then half a dozen individual episode images. So it all looks a little messy visually as you can see in the image. On the positive side, the issue I was having with the pop-up overlay appearing over items in the browser has been resolved... So I shall update that thread shortly after I check if Chrome has also been updated.
