KevinSartori 22 Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 Hello all, Earlier this year, I noticed that some Emby screenshots showed Rotten Tomatoes icons and scores. I wasn't seeing those on my end, though. After a search in the forums here, I discovered that I needed to enable OMDb as a metadata downloader in the Movie library settings and move it up to highest priority. This worked great. It occurred to me today that I wasn't seeing RT scores for TV Shows, so I did the same thing, enabling and setting OMDb to highest priority for the TV Show library. This didn't make a difference and I still don't see RT scores in my TV Shows, using either the Web App or the LG App. I use Ember Media Manager to create metadata .NFO files. After researching a little in the forums here, I discovered that Emby utilizes a <criticrating> tag in the .NFO file for the RT score. Ember doesn't support this yet, but when I manually edited Altered Carbon's tvshow.nfo file, adding <criticrating>67</criticrating>, the Rotten Tomatoes score showed up fine in both the Web App and the LG App. This proves that Emby supports displaying the RT score for TV Shows, but the real question is, can Emby's OMDb metadata downloader retrieve the RT scores for TV Shows during a scan? If so, is there something I'm doing wrong on my end that it's not working? As an aside, I noticed that when I edit a Movie's metadata within Emby, there's a box for Critic Rating. When editing the metadata for a TV Show, however, there is no Critic Rating box. Thanks!
Happy2Play 9783 Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 (edited) Searching a couple Shows via omdbapi.com, it would appear they don't have RT as a rating source for TV, like they do for Movies. And doing a Refresh all on a series and looking at the log you can see Emby is attempting to get from OMDB "&tomatoes=true". Open that url in your browser and you can see all the information returned. {"Title":"NCIS: New Orleans","Year":"2014–","Rated":"TV-14","Released":"23 Sep 2014","Runtime":"42 min","Genre":"Crime, Drama, Mystery","Director":"N/A","Writer":"Gary Glasberg","Actors":"Scott Bakula, Lucas Black, Rob Kerkovich, CCH Pounder","Plot":"A spin-off of NCIS (2003) about the local field office of NCIS that investigates criminal cases involving military personnel in The Big Easy, a city known for its music, entertainment and decadence. KevinSartori 22 Posted September 26, 2019 Author Posted September 26, 2019 FWIW, I sent an email to the Contact address at OMDbAPI asking about Rotten Tomatoes metadata for TV Shows. I'll post here if/when I hear back!
KevinSartori 22 Posted September 28, 2019 Author Posted September 28, 2019 I also posted a Feature Request over on OMDbAPI's GitHub page. I got a response and it doesn't look like we'll be getting Rotten Tomatoes metadata for TV Shows via OMDb API any time soon: Due to legal reason there are no Rotten Tomatoes ratings being provided. The Rotten Tomatoes data was removed to comply with a legal request from Fandango (who owns Rotten Tomatoes). That's why the overall rating structure was changed to relay data from a 3rd party source which I do not control: https://www.patreon.com/posts/rating-changes-8417367I cannot use/store the Rotten Tomatoes information, but you might be able to! They still provide an API that you can request access to use here: https://developer.fandango.com/Rotten_Tomatoes @Luke, could a Critic Rating box be added to the Metadata Editor for TV Shows, this way if someone wanted to go through the (admittedly tedious) process of adding the Rotten Tomatoes scores manually, they could?
