GrimReaper 4739 Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 (edited) Howdy all, this one's gonna be a bit long-ish so bear with me since I'm out of ideas. For quite some time I've been running Shield TV Android server (and been VERY happy with it, it's still my primary server). However, due to some plugins being incompatible/unavailable for the said platform, I've decided to build a Windows server for both backup and certain plugins purposes. So, latest stable 4.2.0.40 install, setup Libraries etc. - all peachy, built an independent server in no time. During that time access was only form Win10 laptop that runs same server, access from both localhost:port and IP:port. And access to Shield server as well: Btw, my home network setup is standard 192.168.1.x with static IPs outside of router's DHCP pool. Problems arose when trying to connect to Win server from ANY other device on my LAN, it being Shield, cell phone Android App, tablet Android app or any browser on them (I'll be using shiled Android TV app as an example) - server is just unreachable. If trying to connect to Win server form Shield - I cannot either connect or wake it, although server is up and running and accessed at the same time from laptop. If trying Manual connection, at least I get Login screen/Users listed, but still no connection possible with the error "Invalid User ID or password" which is kinda ridiculous. Aditionally, app.emby.media only lists Shield server. And yes, port 9096 is open. Tried all the variations in Settings/Users/Password tab, Local Network Access sign in mode: Require a password, Don't require a password, Allow a numeric pIn code - neither works. As I said, I'm freshly out of ideas so any assistance/thoughts would be welcome. Cheers, Grim Edited August 2, 2019 by GrimReaper76
Luke 42077 Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Hi, so you're saying you can connect to your shield server from other devices, but not your windows server. is that right?
GrimReaper 4739 Posted August 2, 2019 Author Posted August 2, 2019 Hi, so you're saying you can connect to your shield server from other devices, but not your windows server. is that right? Yup, have no issues with Shield server (and never had), only Windows one. Cheers, Grim
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 It could be windows firewall blocking connections. I would suggest checking out our Connection Troubleshooter. Please try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. Thanks.

Luke, coomon firewall issue ain't the case as it was turned OFF as one of the first steps while trying to troubleshoot. As stated above (with screenshot examples), if trying to connect to Win server - neither connection nor waking up works, and if entered manually I get to Login screen but no further. So if it was a firewall issue there wouldn't be any progress at all, moreover IP:port format from laptop wouldn't also work as it would route around the network and bump on firewall in that case as well. Anyhow, firewall is Off and the problem persists. Cheers, Grim
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 But if you read the wiki you'll notice that we say: Important: Please do not attempt to skip this step by disabling Windows Firewall, as this usually does more harm than good.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted August 3, 2019 Author Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) Well, if with firewall ENABLED I had the issue initially (and port IS open) next logical step would be to disable it, as a troubleshooting means, I reckon. Edit: And to repeat myself, how is it possible that from Select server screen I cannot either connect or wake server, but if I enter same IP and port manually it takes me to Login scren and get Invalid user ID or password error? Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 Ultimately the answer is that something is likely blocking the connection.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted August 3, 2019 Author Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) Ultimately the answer is that something is likely blocking the connection.I completely agree, hence I'm here asking for some suggestion as I simply cannot determine WHAT is blocking it. Edit: And if you look my edited post above - some connection is definitely made, as there are two different cases occurring. Edited August 3, 2019 by GrimReaper76
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 If you're referring to the fact that it's listed on the server selection screen, that's because it was able to be discovered by our udp server discovery. But then you click on it and the http connection can't reach it's destination.

But then you click on it and the http connection can't reach it's destination. Yes, but why - if I enter that same IP and port manually - it takes me to Login screen? If there was no connection, shouldn't I get same error that Server cannot be reached?
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 Yes that is true. Try deleting the server from the server selection screen and then adding it back.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Yes that is true. Try deleting the server from the server selection screen and then adding it back. Ok, so i removed the server, upon next Switch Server it naturally came back but with no effect, same error - cannot connect or wake. Manual entry also yields same result, "Invalid user id or password". So, shutdown server, change laptop IP to automatic DHCP, start server - et voila, automatic connection straight up. Huh? Shutdown server, revert original static IP, start server - no issues at all, same straight up connection. Go figure. :/ However, another issue still remains, app.emby.media still lists only Shield server bu that ain't much of a deal as Win server is backup/redundancy server anyway. But it still perplexes me. And yes, canyouseeme sees port as open: "Success: I can see your service on 93.143.80.188 on port (9096)". And, of course, something else has to occur, so now Shield Android TV app is misbehaving: Whether on Shield server or Win server, User cannot be changed by logging out, both Logout and Switch Server commands take me to same Choose Server screen and regardless which server I choose I get logged as an Admin, although in the App settings Startup behavior "Show Login Screen" is selected. Only way to switch user is again Manual Entry IP:port (regardless is it Shield server or Win server), that takes me to Login screen and User can be chosen, which quickly gets old. Man. Cheers, Grim
Luke 42077 Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 app.emby.media still lists only Shield server If you want it to list more servers then you can add them from that screen. Have you tried that?
GrimReaper 4739 Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 (edited) If you want it to list more servers then you can add them from that screen. Have you tried that? Yup, variations as I could think of: As I said, it ain't big of a deal as it's for internal purposes only. (Edit: Besides, it's tied to my Connect, so I reckon it should be listed automatically?) I'm more confused by Shiled Android TV App behavior. Cheers, Grim Edited August 5, 2019 by GrimReaper76
Solution Luke 42077 Posted August 5, 2019 Solution Posted August 5, 2019 Try removing it from your connect account and then redoing the linking process. 1
GrimReaper 4739 Posted August 6, 2019 Author Posted August 6, 2019 (edited) Try removing it from your connect account and then redoing the linking process. That did the trick. (Although curious what went wrong the first time. Anyway, sorted, thanks.) Now on to Shied Android TV App. Edited August 6, 2019 by GrimReaper76
