hulkaveli 0 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) if i take a blu ray and rip a 4k version and a 720p version i end up with duplicates in the library. after reading https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/4076-multiple-resolutions-of-same-movie-sdhd/ i completely renamed all of the video filenames in my library the way that the emby team member suggested. So now as far as i can tell the files are named how the emby help documents say they should be but when i place both files in the same folder i will end up with the same movie having 2 listings in my library. the files are named like so : \\192.168.1.113\h\Media\Movies\Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) [Animation, Rated(PG-13)]\Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) - 2160p.mp4 \\192.168.1.113\h\Media\Movies\Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) [Animation, Rated(PG-13)]\Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) - 720p.mp4 then if me or anyone else in my household syncs &/or converts anything to 1 or more formats using the built in convert tool we end up with 3+ listings in the library for the same movie. the converted files are named like so : \\192.168.1.113\h\Media\Movies\Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) [Animation, Rated(PG-13)]\Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) - mobile.mp4 \\192.168.1.113\h\Media\Movies\Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) [Animation, Rated(PG-13)]\Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) - tv.mp4 here is how the movie shows in my recently added section & any variation of the movies library. i just used the search to simplify the question and only show this movie but every movie with multiple resolutions named like the one above show a completely seperate listing in any library view for each file. hulkaveli 0 Posted April 28, 2019 Author Posted April 28, 2019 (edited) it used to only show 1 listing for the movie if all the files were in the same folder even if i created multiple qualities when i ripped them. is this a setting i may have inadvertently changed that i can change back? are there any options in the settings to fix this? ive spent some hours over the past week searching the forum and google but cant figure out how to get it back with only 1 listing for each movie if there are multiple files in the folder. i meant to say, is there a way to fix this other than manually grouping the versions everytime a new version is created using convert and sync? Luke 42085 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Hi, the reason why this is happening is that in order to group automatically, it needs to follow our multi-version naming guidelines: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie-naming#multi-version-movies So sometimes after the new version is created, the old version might need to be renamed. We can look at adding an option to the conversion process to automate this.

Luke 42085 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 It doesn't' look like that to me, because look at the name of the folder compared to the requirements listed in the wiki. The file names of the videos do not start with the full name of the folder.
hulkaveli 0 Posted May 5, 2019 Author Posted May 5, 2019 @@hulkaveli has this answered your question? i didn't realize that something may changed recently that could have caused the additional info in the folder name to disrupt auto grouping. i am going to see if that makes a difference although as i said i havent had this problem until the last month or so and my folder naming scheme has been the same for years. i assumed that since the actual filenames are the same,in the same folder, emby knows what movie it is that it would list everything after the dash as a different version like the help file says but I'm so used to my folder naming i didnt even notice that the additional info could be the problem. when i get back home off the road and back home to the server i will try renaming some of the movies that list 4 or 5 versions after sync and convert with a full path exactly as shown in the example.
Solution Luke 42085 Posted May 6, 2019 Solution Posted May 6, 2019 Hi @@hulkaveli. Nothing has changed, it's just that based on the name of the folder, you would never get automatic grouping. Our wiki article on this spells it out: Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". The folder name is: Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) [Animation, Rated(PG-13)] But the file names only start with: Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) This has always been the requirement for multi-version grouping. Does this answer your question? 1
hulkaveli 0 Posted May 7, 2019 Author Posted May 7, 2019 Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". Thats what has changed and it was on our end, auto grouping always worked previously when i first noticed a duplicate or two i renamed every FILE following the FILENAME naming scheme without the extra Genre,Rating Info in the filename. then however long later i noticed there were so many duplicates and i came here... So for years my path has been like /drive/movies/Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) [Animation, Rated(PG-13)]/Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019) [Animation, Rated(PG-13)].mp4 so i was thinking something went wrong with emby recently parsing folders because my folder naming scheme has been consistent since way back when i used plex before i came to emby. i imagine the first one or two were a fluke, different folders or something. then me changing the filename pattern of every file to no longer match the folder is what caused this to be such an extreme issue. i read that help file like 10+ times and i never processed that sentene properly until you quoted it to me. i was wrong, auto grouping works fine just as long as the movie and filename are the same with version info appended afterwards. awesome support guys. sorry for being a dunderheaded mifflinator.
