skidmarks 199 Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 This is just a simple question about this setting. I have a awful service plan out here in BFE... "24 / 3" (before i filed a complaint with the FCC i was getting .3 / .02 for years) This is my setting in emby: A safe upload speed so it doesn't wipe out my internet for other things. Tonight i had one external user streaming a movie (direct playing)... Is only 804 kbps so no trans coding log available. As expected! But using the internet in my house for anything that required upload data was erratically working. I went to investigate and realized emby (and nothing else was going on besides this one move) was hitting my ethernet anywhere between 0 -> 6 Mbps about every 5 or so seconds... Isn't the idea of the 1Mb setting to throttle the outbound stream? Thanks for any knowledge in advance!
Solution Luke 42079 Posted April 14, 2019 Solution Posted April 14, 2019 That means 3.4 Mbps of network activity within the emby server process, not that one stream. That could include traffic in the internal network and even on localhost, so i wouldn't take much stock into that number. 1

Makes sense... I need to break out a more sophisticated sniffing tool to see whats really happening then. Thanks luke... Edited April 14, 2019 by skidmarks
Brudertac 18 Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 One Question on this, there is currently no way to Setup a MAX Bitrate for all external Users? I mean, i can Setup per User, but if i have for example 5mbit available and set the Max Upload to 4, what happens if more then 1 User Streams? Do Emby get this and divide the available Bandwith through currently Streaming Users? Thanks Brudertac
Luke 42079 Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 It is per stream, but more options are possible for the future. Thanks.
Brudertac 18 Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 It is per stream, but more options are possible for the future. Thanks. Thanks Luke, i would vote for a Global Limit, but only for External Users. 2
Ninko 78 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 I would like to see a global speed limit too! This way you can ensure there is bandwidth left over for other uses and have the allotted Emby bandwidth shared among streaming users. Thanks 1
kelly.clubb 8 Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 (edited) Is this megabit or megabytes per sec? No one ever follows standard on naming conventions... I'm assuming it's megabits per second but just want to double check. Edited November 16, 2021 by kelly.clubb
