thor2105 8 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Windows 10 Emby v 4.0.1.0 Sony A8F OLED TV emby android TV beta 1.6.86g For the last couple of release versions, and in the current beta, I've had an issue with audio sync when playing any movie, TV Show etc. This issue is 100% repeatable and occurrs on all movies as discribed below. All movies are ripped in MKV (passthrough) format. If I start emby, and then start a movie, any movie, the sound will be out of sync. If I stop the movie and restart it, the audio will return to being in sync and remain that way for the entire movie. (I have got into the habit of starting a movie and immediately stopping and restarting it). It only needs to run for a second and you can stop and restart it. Problem solved, but a bit anoying. Once the movie has finished, and you start another movie, it will be in sync and have no issues. If you stop a movie part way through, turn the TV off and recommence watching the movie the following night, the movie will restart from where it left off, and be in sync. The sync issue only ever relates to the first movie you start from the begining in any session The above behaviour is 100% repeatable.
ebr 16183 Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 That is absolutely bizarre. How are these items playing (direct, remux, transcode)?
thor2105 8 Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 That is absolutely bizarre. How are these items playing (direct, remux, transcode)? All of the above (I think). It's been doing it for so long now, I've got into the habit of starting a movie and immediately stopping and restarting it. I got sick of letting the movies run until I saw someone speak to confirm if it was in sync. With some movies you would have to run them for a quite a while before you saw someone speak, and then you'd have to restart the movie from the start again. Now I just start, stop, start and there is no sync issue. Each time a new version of emby comes out, I run a movie without stopping it to see if the issue has been fixed. No luck yet As I 've been stopping and restarting each movie to avoided the problem, there may be some that have started correctly (in sync) that I've missed. I'll let them run from now on without stopping and restarting them, to see if there are any circumstances where they start correctly. As I've never seen anyone else report this issue, I've always put it down to an incompatibility issue, specific to the Sony A8F OLED. I'm guessing there wouldn't be to many people running that particular TV on this forum. If there is another, maybe they might comment on their experiences. I'll let you know the results.
thor2105 8 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) Update: It's a bit of a slow process testing, as the sync issue is only present for the first movie you play from the start. As I've said above, if the movie has already been partly played, it will always start in sync, as will any second or third ....etc movie / TV series you play in any session. Only the first one being played is affected I've purposely let a new movie run until I could confirm the out of sync issue, rather than start - stop - start them as i have been doing to alleviate the problem. So far all movies have been out of sync until restarted. 1 x Direct Streaming 3 x Transcoding 1 x Direct Playing The issue is still present in the current beta release and has been present for a number of stable releases. (Sorry, I can't remember which release it started in - it could have even been one of the V 3.??? windows releases rather that one of the android TV releases ) I still think it's very unusual that no-one else has reported this problem, especially as I can reproduce it 100% of the time, and over multiple versions. It makes me think it's somehow specific to my setup? Edited February 22, 2019 by thor2105
Solution thor2105 8 Posted September 22, 2019 Author Solution Posted September 22, 2019 Windows 10 Emby v 4.0.1.0 Sony A8F OLED TV emby android TV beta 1.6.86g For the last couple of release versions, and in the current beta, I've had an issue with audio sync when playing any movie, TV Show etc. This issue is 100% repeatable and occurrs on all movies as discribed below. I thought I would provide an update on this issue, mainly for the dev team. UPDATE: Windows 10 Emby v 4.2.1.0 Sony A8F OLED TV emby android TV 1.7.50g Several weeks ago I updated to the latest version of Android 8, 'Oreo' (finally released in Australia). The original issue I reported seems to have been resolved by the Oreo update. All movies, (so far), start in sync and stay in sync, including Blu-ray 4K. (All movies I have played so far have been 'Direct Play') This issue appears to have been related to the Sony A87 / Android 7 system, and has been corrected in Android 8 'Oreo'. 1
