MrFlux 7 Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Hi Chaps After updating to 4.0.0.2, I'm finding some of my moves (though not all) lost their metadata, and when I go into those movies, there's a "split versions apart" button. Clicking it then going back out again puts the correct metadata back, but then I appear to have 2 versions of those movies, despite there only being 1 file (ie there's a version dropdown, listing 2 copies of the movie, both identical). I also appear to be unable to add certain movies to collections, which were previously there. The ones where multiple versions are listed appear to be the same ones that won't add, although there are some that are not showing multiple versions that still won't add. Example: Alien (1979), mkv file, showing 2 versions in the Version dropdown (there's definitely only one version), and when I add it to my Alien collection, it says added, but then doesn't get added when I go back out and check it. Same with Aliens. Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are correctly in the collection. Any ideas? Other than that, v4 seems to be pretty good... Thanks!
Carlo 4561 Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Have you performed a library rescan after doing that?
MrFlux 7 Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 Yes I did. I also tried removing an affected movie from the library, running a library scan to make sure it was gone, then putting the video file in a new folder and moving it back again, then rescanning to add it back in. Still shows up with 2 versions, and still won't let me add it to the collection!
ebr 16187 Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Hi. Can you please show us the exact file structure of these items (windows explorer)? Also, how you setup the library they are in (content type and folders)? Thanks.
MrFlux 7 Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 Folder structure is a standard folder / share. The library is set up as Movies content type, with a path of J:\Videos\Movies and an associated share of \\flux\Movies. Metadata savers is set to NFO (by default I think, I've not changed this at any point), and save artwork into media folders is not ticked. Save metadata and images as hidden files is also unticked under advanced tab. Is that enough info? Happy to provide logs if necessary!
Solution Carlo 4561 Posted January 22, 2019 Solution Posted January 22, 2019 Assuming this is the version from 1979 what happens if you change the names of the folder and media files to "Alien (1979)" ? It's possible that Emby can't figure out which Alien movie this is. 2
MrFlux 7 Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 Bingo, adding the year to the file and folder and rescanning changed it so only 1 version is showing now, and I was also able to add it to the collection. I'll try that with the other affected files, there aren't so many of them I can't do it manually. I'll report back if I get any further problematic items. Thanks! 1
Carlo 4561 Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Give FileBot a shot. Costs a few bucks to register but well worth it. I think they have a free trial. If not google for version 4.7.9 which works without registration. FileBot makes QUICK work of naming files (and folders) correctly once you set it up. 1
MrFlux 7 Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 OK, weirdly this doesn't seem to be due to the year not being there. I had this with a few other folders, some of which already had the year present (Prometheus was one, keeping with the Alien theme). Removing the year from the folder and file and rescanning the library then lets me add the movie to the collection and gets rid of the odd double version issue. Same for a few other files, so the fix appears to be renaming the file / folder and rescanning into the library.
Luke 42083 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Can you give an example of a movie that is showing two versions even though you only have one?
MrFlux 7 Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 Hi Luke Despicable Me is another one. Relevant screen grab below I'm wondering if this is because I've set up shares on each of my libraries, so there are 2 paths. Not sure why this would happen only on some movies though, or why renaming the files / folders would change anything! Hope that helps. Also I'm not sure if the split versions issue is related to the issue where I can't add files to folders, a few of the files I can't seem to add to collections don't present the split version behaviour. The fix is the same though, renaming the files and folders then allows me to add the item to the collection.
MrFlux 7 Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 (edited) Looking a bit further, the files that don't have the split version all list the share as the only path. The ones that do have it list both the local path and the share path as different versions. I'm wondering if this is happening only to movies that got added before I added the share onto the library. It does seem to be movies I've had for a while, more recent additions don't appear to have this problem. It would be nice to have a fix though, I don't want to have to go through and search / rename all my affected movies... I could remove the share from the library, not sure what that would do to the library though. I don't mind re-adding or recreating the library if necessary. Edited January 23, 2019 by MrFlux
Luke 42083 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 What do you mean by before you added the share?
MrFlux 7 Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Initially I didn't have the folders my media are located in shared on the network, so Emby was only aware of the local path J:/Videos/KidsMovies/ for the library. At some point way back, the option to add a shared network folder was added to Emby (can't remember when, I've been with Emby since it was MediaBrowser on WMC), and when I discovered it I shared each library folder on the network, so I could then browse them on other machines via \\flux\KidsMovies. I'm not now convinced this is the problem now though, I just un-shared my movies folder and rescanned the library, still getting movies showing 2 versions, but both now point to the local drive as opposed to the shared path (see image of 2 version v for Vendetta, pointing to the same file. If I rename the file / folder, one of those would vanish. Also, this definitely doesn't appear to be related to the issue with not being able to add items to collections, I'm trying to add Kill Bill v1 & 2 to a collections (neither have the duplicate versions issue), and it says OK, but then the collection doesn't show up.
