Cache Size - How Big is TOO BIG

The cache on my server is currently 17GB.

That's a huge amount of image data... So I have a few questions.  :)

I was swapping between themes last week testing to see if extras would show up in a couple of themes... This obviously involved some tweaking of folder views as I wanted to see if I a new theme with support for extras was something I could live with... Turns out it wasn't and I'll happily wait until the subdued theme gets updated... So I switched back.

In another thread I asked how often the cache cleanup is run, and is there a way to manually do it... Because I can't find a way/setting anywhere... Feature request please.  :)

Without going through 205,000 images in the cache... I have no idea which files are good and which are no longer needed...

So what should I do... delete everything and run a full scan and let it rebuild the image cache again? Will that cause issues.

Note, this is not the IBN folders as those are located on another drive which resolved an issue I had with people not being populated at all.

I've only got a small SSD for the OS drive, and the MBS folder in the appdata folder is 20.2GB... to put it in perspective... that's a third of the entire space being used and roughly the same as the entire windows install.

I really need to reduce that down to free up some space... My last build and even with MB2 never went over about 5GB for the image cache... and my media isn't that much larger than then... perhaps an extra 100 or so movies and a few hundred episodes of tv shows. Certainly nothing that should account for an extra 12GB of images.

Advice on what to do please.   :)

Are you positive it was the image cache?

Yeah @@ebr  , I checked the individual folders within the cache and found that the main culprits were the cropped/enhanced/resized folders which accounted for over 15GB alone.

I've deleted and will monitor as I use MBC to see how they repopulate.

It might also have something to do with the issues I was having with it populating the IBN/people folders, and that was only resolved when I set a custom path and allowed it to refresh from scratch. Maybe there were a lot of left over images, it's a new build and only about a month old now... if that.

it is constantly recycling files that are more than 30 days old. they are safe to delete manually if you wish.

Just thought I'd update this... after deleting all of the cache images and running MBC for about a week... The cache is a meagre 2.57GB in comparison to the 17GB it was before.
