harrv 90 Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 (edited) I'd like my Emby server to direct-play more often than transcoding while streaming. Towards that goal, I've done some limited testing with the Convert feature to convert new content with the Mobile profile. Because I still want the original high-quality files for use while I'm home, I used the "Convert to: Original mdeia folder, next to original files" setting. The convert part seems to work fine. (Thanks for that feature!) However, the way that second file displays when viewing the library is a problem. Most of the time, I get multiple entries in my library. I know that there is a naming convention which is designed to prevent this: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie%20naming#multi-version-movies I've had some success with seeing both versions of a movie show up in a drop-down menu under a single library entry when naming precisely according to that guide. Thank you. However, I tried for a couple hours yesterday to make the same thing work for TV episodes with no luck at all. Since there isn't a similar section in the TV naming wiki, I don't know if that is even supported for TV libraries. Is it? if (episodes.getFeatures().contains(multi-version-naming)) { assert("I'll be happy to provide server logs and screenshots and describe what I've tried."); suggest("Wiki update for TV episode naming to include multi-version-naming feature."); } else { query("Why not?"); } Thanks! horstepipe 422 Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 I've never seen that reported before. lol, seriously...? https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63693-ffprobe-for-strm-files-is-broken/
harrv 90 Posted October 26, 2018 Author Posted October 26, 2018 (edited) It is coming in the next release. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24701-multiple-resolutions-for-tv-shows https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63528-36051-multi-version-episodes Oh, good to know. Thanks. I read in that second thread that the TV episodes don't require dashes or brackets and a strict structure. It sounds like if two or more files are detected as the same episode, then you get them as choices in the drop down. I wish movies worked like that too. Two files in the same directory detected as the same movie and it'd just work. I really prefer to keep files named the way they were released. Of course, as you know, people use that feature for movies for two different things. One common use is the one I described in the first post where I have multiple resolutions or codecs but otherwise the same content. For that use, it is ideal to choose as the default selection in the pop-down menu the one that will likely work the best on each client (to help the non-techies, or the people who don't even notice the menu get it right). And Emby already tries to do that, I think. Thanks. The other use for the feature is to have alternate endings, director's cut, fan edits, etc. When used for that purpose, I usually want the theatrical version to be the default, but Emby uses the same logic for picking a default as the one described in the previous paragraph. It'd be nice if there were a naming "tag" I could use (maybe even the word "default") that would override the normal default selection based on resolution/bandwidth/codecs or whatever else is part of that algorithm. Or, a new element could be added to the nfo xml that describes the multiple versions and lets you identify a default. Just throwing out an ides for making it even more useful. Thanks. horstepipe 422 Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 That doesn't sound random. I mentioned this issue for weeks now and pinged you again and again and you didn’t notice it until now...?
