RobWayBro 28 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 As the subject says, today I am suddenly unable to connect to my server with Emby Theater. Both the Windows store edition and the full install edition (for lack of a better term) are unable to connect. My server is running and I can access it with a browser with no issue (both with IP address and hostname). Attempting to connect directly with Theater fails also. I can use psping (a pstools tool) to ping the port on my server, both with IP and Hostname, so it is not a matter of the server not being available. It was functioning correctly Friday when I left work. There is the possiblity of an IP change, but I am using No-IP and it has reflected the change correctly. I have uninstalled and re-installed both clients, with restarts, and this makes no difference. I have also attempted to add a new server, this also fails (using both IP and Hostname). Help please and thank you...
muppets4 24 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Luke is going to ask you to attach your server log (:
RobWayBro 28 Posted September 10, 2018 Author Posted September 10, 2018 Log.txtProbably true, unless it is an know issue already. But here is it anyway..
Luke 42079 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 I would suggest checking out our connection troubleshooter: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Connectivity Please try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. Thanks.
RobWayBro 28 Posted September 10, 2018 Author Posted September 10, 2018 Thanks Luke I have my external address, both with IP and DNS resolvable name and correct port. As I mentioned before, I can successfully connect via web browser (Chrome in my case), using the external DNS name and port. I also used psping, which is part of the PS tools that allows pinging a specific port, and this responds with good connection. I have proper port forwarding configured, my web browser connects correctly. Took the additional step of using canyouseeme.org and it is also successful. Are there any theater logs to review?
RobWayBro 28 Posted September 10, 2018 Author Posted September 10, 2018 Also, I am receiving the following error message, kinda generic but to me points to an issue with Emby Connect. I removed all servers from the theater connect screen and attempting to add my server back results in the same error message: Even if I try using Skip, Connect to server manually, it still fails with the same error message.
RobWayBro 28 Posted September 10, 2018 Author Posted September 10, 2018 FWIW, app.emby.media and tv.emby.media both are successful in a browser. Emby Andriod app works fine. So for me the only issue is with Theater connecting.
Solution RobWayBro 28 Posted September 12, 2018 Author Solution Posted September 12, 2018 (edited) Hi Luke and thank you for the followup, I really appreciate it and all you guys do. I found my issue, I had setup SSL using LetsEncrypt and it appears what happened was that my cert was getting updated, but since the setup requires setting up IIS for the certificate to be setup and updated, then exported to a file that is then added to Emby the main cert was updated but the file in Emby had the expired date listed. Now, it seems Theater could not get past the expired cert. Last night I completely redid my cert, reapplied it to Emby and Theater connected immediately as it should. So, in summary, It was the expired certificate file in Emby that caused my problem. Edited September 12, 2018 by RobWayBro 1
