Opened Port 8096 on Firewall am I at Risk UFU interface GUFU

I had to open 8096 to use emby on my local network.

 

I'm using GUFU which is graphic interface for UFU.

I worry that I've opened myself up to being hacked by opening these ports. Can anyone direct me

to a way sept up the firewall to be more secure. Or assure me that my machine is not in danger.

 

I opened Port 8096 to allow Emby.

I'm showing in rules (Log Out)

 

8096 Allow in Anywhere (Log)   DNS I think that's the name that I gave it.

8096 Allow out Anywhere

8096(V6) Allow in Anywhere (v6) (Log)

8096(V6) Allow out Anywhere (v6) (Log Out)

Hi, you don't need to open port 8096 on the router for local network access, only for remote access, if you want to use that.

For whatever reason Emby wouldn't connect until I made up this rule. 

 

Should I have made up a different rule?

You need the rules on your server machine, not on your router. What are you trying to connect from?

This is a simple consumer machine the rules are on the Software Firewall that came with my Linux Installation. The machine is not being used as

a server. The Software Firewall is on the PC there is no intermediate Firewall Server.

 

The rules are for the fire wall software on the PC not for the router.

 

Kubuntu 18.04 PC  →  Software Firewall (GUFU) → Router →Wifi → FireStick → Television

You would definitely need to open 8096 in the software firewall on your machine, but you can still close off remote access from the router. That's what you did, right?

Hurray we are making progress.

It didn't occur to me to go to the  router and  block remote access to port 8096

 

I think that is the solution. I'll be back to confirm it.
