Show media that's in rar files

Hi, 

first off, I do not want to playback any media through emby, I just want to synchronise my media that's been seen and not, If I pause in one room I can continue watch my show in another via kodi, is that possible while media is in .rar format? 

 

I've seen https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/1440 

But that's about transcoding the media through emby right? I do have other hardware that's capable of playback my media.
