TheExterminator 1 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) When I go into my music library and edit the metadata for any artist, album etc, the field Path at the very top doesn't show me the path that the media is located in in my media library (like C:\Media\Beatles). Instead, it shows the path as something like C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\metadata\artists\Beatles. This is only happening with my music library, not movies or tv shows. It happens in every Emby client that I use. I am using Emby Server 3.5.2.0 on Windows 10 Is this a bug ? Is there a way to fix this so it shows the actual path to the media folder ? Edited August 24, 2018 by TheExterminator
Happy2Play 9785 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) That is only happening for Artists/Album artists correct? IF you are seeing this for Albums or any where else I would like to see a specific example. By default Emby saves Artists/Album artists metadata to the metadata/artists folder. d00zah 149 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 That's where artist-specific metadata has (~) always been stored. I make a point of backing up the 'artists' folder ANY time I make significant manual edits, add images, etc.
TheExterminator 1 Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) Yes but I need to correct something that I originally said. This issue only happens when I edit the artist metadata, not the album metadata. Hope that my issue is clear I don't care where it stores the meta data but I want it to show the correct path in the path field like C:\Music\Beatles for example Edited August 24, 2018 by TheExterminator
Happy2Play 9785 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Okay the server is working as designed then. As there are so many music folder structures that everyone keeps, Artists/Album Artists were centralized to metadata/artists.
d00zah 149 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) That would be the path for a particular album. Artist metadata path is correct, as is. IIRC there have been feature requests to store artist metadata with the media, but it's just not how things are done currently. Edited August 24, 2018 by d00zah
TheExterminator 1 Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 Ok Thanks Its a bit annoying because when theres an artist in the lists of artists that I don't recognize, I'll usually check the path (my music is accurately sorted by artists in the media folder on my drive) in case theres a mismatch where its showing the wrong artist name. I'll just have to figure out another way to work around this
Happy2Play 9785 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) Well clicking on the Artist should show you what they appear on, then find the track the artist on. Since the Artist is coming from embedded metadata. Edited August 24, 2018 by Happy2Play
TheExterminator 1 Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 Thats kind of what I'm doing now.when I find an artist that I don't recognize, i click into the artist then album and look up the album metadata which has the actual path of the media
Solution Luke 42085 Posted August 24, 2018 Solution Posted August 24, 2018 That's just the way artists work. They're tagged items and not something that is correlated with a specific folder. Thanks. 1
