ab123ga 16 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Today I was just browsing through my movies to update posters and noticed that a decent percentage of the movies showed a gray box for the poster. When I would select the movie the poster there would be a gray box. The really strange thing is I have fair number of disk drives in 4 port USB enclosures that would suddenly disconnect from the PC then reconnect If I shut down emby, no up and down of the drives. I also have Plex running using the same folders and Plex is not causing the drives to disconnect/reconnect. I restarted emby and all was good for a few minutes and it repeated itself. I have had to shut emby down in order to not have my drives go up and down. I've attached 2 logs where the problem occurred. If I need to pinpoint a more exact time I can experiment when no one is watching a movie since the drive may disconnect from the PC. embyserver-63669149735.txt embyserver-63669161805.txt
Luke 42085 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Hi there, to improve the performance of your emby server, try removing the cover art and Kodi sync plugins. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
ab123ga 16 Posted August 7, 2018 Author Posted August 7, 2018 Same issue. I removed both individually and restarted and got the screen similar to attached. Then the drives disconnected and reconnected. If I do not scroll through movies it does not appear to happen. Around 9:12E is when I did it. Added: I tried an experiment. I used my iphone to scroll through the movies and it did the same thing. Latest emby log around 9:19-9:21. embyserver-63669229890.txt embyserver.txt
ebr 16195 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Then the drives disconnected and reconnected. What, exactly, does that mean? Disconnected where? Are these local or network drives?
ab123ga 16 Posted August 7, 2018 Author Posted August 7, 2018 These are local drives. 3 or 4 to a usb enclosure. Again as noted, there's no issue until I scroll through my library. Windows gives me the notification that something was disconnected. When I check all of my USB drives are gone. A few seconds later they reconnect automatically. This seems to occur when trying to bring up the posters but I don't know. When I scroll through the same movies via plex it does not happen. Same drives/folders for both apps.
ebr 16195 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Sounds like a hardware or Windows problem. Emby doesn't do anything that would affect the connection of your drives. I would run some diagnostics and maybe try some new cables...
Happy2Play 9784 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Possibly "Power Options" USB selective suspend setting
ab123ga 16 Posted August 7, 2018 Author Posted August 7, 2018 Selective suspend is disabled and I will try the other things later. But again the weird thing is this only happens when I scroll through the list of movies in emby. I can watch the movies and all is good. thanks
Happy2Play 9784 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Almost looks like a caching issue. On my desktop, when I get this placeholder without images I clear my browser cache to resolve the issue. But if the drives are going offline then I believe that is normal behavior until the next library scan when drives are online (reported in other topics).
Solution ab123ga 16 Posted August 18, 2018 Author Solution Posted August 18, 2018 After doing quite a bit of moving cables and testing disks I was able to narrow the problem down to 1 drive. Not sure what's up with the drive but when accessing it would somehow cause all the drives in the enclosure to go away and come back after a few seconds. I moved all the movies to another disk and all appears to be working fine now. Another disk bites the dust Thanks all. 1
