blumamba 10 Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 I got over one hurdle now its two more.....ugggh I moved from win7 to win10 on my server and htpc. First i did the htpc and did my back ups. second I did the server and did my back ups. upon completion of installing all the apps blah bla I finally got to set up the win10 server. In my last set up (win7 Nortons enabled and configured), I added the network in the dashboard as one would with no issue. In win10 my networked pcs do not show up and it's not allowing me to use the ip address? What am i missing? If I add the media using the drive letter everything is transcoded over the network. As before with using the network it direct played on both htpc's. In the win10 htpc i am using the emby theater and the untouched win7 pc wmc emby add in. Second, the harmony remote was configured and working fine in win7 mc but now does'nt seem to work at all. There is one exception, I here what sounds like its moving around using the directional keys. I can hit "ok" and it will enter what ever it happens to land on, as there are no indicators on the screen to show movement. Nothings highlighted etc. and the "exit" doesn't work now either. Here is the funny thing, my other untouched win7 htpc works sort of? It will no longer back out of any screens and shows blank screens after hitting play on random movies. Like DD/dvd for example, yet some DTS-HD/hd material will play and some won't. One last thing, is the artwork, clearart, and icons are reallllly small (tooo small to even tell what it is) or not displaying at all? Can anyone guide me to proper set up so I can confirm what I did or tell me what I am doing wrong? As I cant find anything in the wiki that answers my issues. Maybe I missed it? Thanks
Luke 42078 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Are you trying to use a harmony remote with the web app? Network sharing in windows 10 is a little stricter than it was before. If the media is on the same machine then i would suggest using the drive letter combined with entering the optional network path when you add folders. This will give you the direct play that you're referring to. Please let us know if this helps.
dansblackcat 37 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 On your server you can try this. Hit the windows key and type services. Scroll down to- "Function Discovery Provider Host" & "Function Discovery Resource Publication" If they're not running start both of them and see if this solves your issue? I set both mine to "Automatic Start (Delayed)"
dansblackcat 37 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Also double check you Network Share Settings. One of the W10 updates removed homegroup and set all my settings back to default. I had to turn back on my 'share files and folders' and turn off 'password protected sharing'.
blumamba 10 Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 Thanks to you both. 1. yes I am using a harmony with emby theater. Am I not supposed to? What app for win10 supports the harmonys? 2. Library is rebuilding. I will get back with the answer as to if it direct plays. I did notice on a dummy account that it had an option to access all drives, which is not on the primary administrator account? So I assume this may be my listing issue? 3. All the services are running and set to auto. Network settings are still set correctly. I will report back asap. Thanks
Luke 42078 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Yes a harmony with Theater should be fine. Are you having a problem with it?
blumamba 10 Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 Yes the harmony would not move or show anything highlighted. You can hear the audio response and the "ok" button was the only one that would respond. Now after trying the direct streaming as you instructed (still won't see networked pcs), that was a no go. It still transcodes. To be clear its the audio that is transcoding. It did the same thing in win7 if mapped to local hdds. I had to use the network to direct play. In this case Its not giving me the option to access the networked drives. I found a post here which showed the option I mentioned earlier but now that option is gone. I also noted that its not displaying the correct hd audio. It simply shows std 5.1. Yes, the files are hd, no issues with win7. For giggles I added an administrator prior to me uninstalling and the option was there, but not on mine. I am new to win10 so I finally figured out how to create a dummy account to match the one for emby. I then logged in and no emby for me to log into and remove me and re add to enable the option. I did not redownload server app because I was afraid it would mess up the one I already installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled the client app on the htpc and found that in tablet mode the harmony would not work. In desktop mode it would with out the "stop" function. My goal is to have a fully remote htpc like my previous one. I am beginning to think that the powers that be are trying to squash that too. Or maybe no one actually uses the "stop" anymore or powers up the pc via remote? So after a few times switching from tablet to desktop mode I used the screen setting and changed it to "tv", then the app responded to the remote in both desktop and tablet with the exception of no "stop". I cant close the app and shut the pc down either like in wmc. Am I expecting to much from this "upgrade" to win10? Thanks for the education.
blumamba 10 Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 Here is the thread I was referring to. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/34765-network-shares-not-found/ It does not give me the option access shares. I am confident this is the problem. I just cant figure out why?
dansblackcat 37 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I think you're on the right track as mine also transcodes if I have network sharing issues. When I set up my library I wasn't able to browse to find my network folders, so I just manually entered the path. I entered them into the 'Folder' section. I didn't bother with the "(optional) network folder section So on mine it looks like \\Dans-PC\Movies \\Dans-PC\TV
Luke 42078 Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 make sure you're able to open windows explorer and just type in network paths and be able to browse to them. if you cant' do that then emby won't be able to either.
blumamba 10 Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 All my pc's can see and access the shares with no issue. Windows security pops up when I "run" \\192.168.1.2 and asks for creds. Upon entering them, no issue. In my Nortons, the app and components have unrestricted access. The server app now wont give me the option to see the network shares. That is my issue as it was the only solution in win7, so I am at a loss as to why win7 had no issues and win10 does. I did not change any hardware and performed a clean install. I may have been mistaking when I said it was transcoding audio only: User policy for Michael: EnablePlaybackRemuxing: True EnableVideoPlaybackTranscoding: True EnableAudioPlaybackTranscoding: TrueC:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\ffmpeg.exe -noaccurate_seek -f matroska, webm -i file:"E:\Media\Movies\HD\The Silence of the Lambs (1991)\The Silence of the Lambs (1991).mkv" -threads 0 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map -0:s -codec:v:0 copy -bsf:v h264_mp4toannexb -copyts -vsync -1 -codec:a:0 ac3 -ac 6 -ab 384000 -f segment -max_delay 5000000 -avoid_negative_ts disabled -map_metadata -1 -map_chapters -1 -start_at_zero -segment_time 6 -individual_header_trailer 0 -break_non_keyframes 1 -segment_format mpegts -segment_list_type m3u8 -segment_start_number 0 -segment_list "C:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\transcoding-temp\d28bd3ca7691392ee3051e1d038fd7a8.m3u8" -y "C:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\transcoding-temp\d28bd3ca7691392ee3051e1d038fd7a8%d.ts" Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (High), yuv420p(tv, bt709, progressive), 1920x1040 [sAR 1:1 DAR 24:13], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default)Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: dts (DTS-HD MA), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), s32p (24 bit) (default)Stream #0:2(eng): Subtitle: dvd_subtitle, 1920x1040Stream mapping:Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy)Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (dts (dca) -> ac3 (native))Press [q] to stop, [?] for help[segment @ 000002cf5b5f84c0] Opening 'C:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\transcoding-temp\d28bd3ca7691392ee3051e1d038fd7a80.ts' for writingOutput #0, segment, to 'C:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\transcoding-temp\d28bd3ca7691392ee3051e1d038fd7a8%d.ts':Metadata:encoder : Lavf58.12.100Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (High), yuv420p(tv, bt709, progressive), 1920x1040 [sAR 1:1 DAR 24:13], q=2-31, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 90k tbn, 23.98 tbc (default)Stream #0:1: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1, fltp (24 bit), 384 kb/s (default)Metadata:encoder : Lavc58.18.100 ac3[segment @ 000002cf5b5f84c0] Opening 'C:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\transcoding-temp\d28bd3ca7691392ee3051e1d038fd7a8.m3u8.tmp' for writing[segment @ 000002cf5b5f84c0] Opening 'C:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\transcoding-temp\d28bd3ca7691392ee3051e1d038fd7a81.ts' for writing[segment @ 000002cf5b5f84c0] Opening 'C:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\transcoding-temp\d28bd3ca7691392ee3051e1d038fd7a8.m3u8.tmp' for writing[segment @ 000002cf5b5f84c0] Opening 'C:\Users\catfr\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\transcoding-temp\d28bd3ca7691392ee3051e1d038fd7a82.ts' for writingframe= 305 fps=0.0 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:00:12.69 bitrate=N/A speed=25.4x I can copy and paste more of the log if I need to, just tell me what part you need. blumamba 10 Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 I just now noticed that the share icons are not coming up on my server (which the server app is installed) in the network or pc. However on my htpc is displays. If I use it, it too transcodes and does it different from using the app itself.

blumamba 10 Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 I am using the emby server (win10 pc) to win10 htpc via emby theater installed via app store. I am not using any other app to play back to. The server will not allow me to access the shares and thus the transcoding. The one post stated "I just wanted to add this note since I found this searching for a very similar problem. If you are running the Emby service you may need to change who that service runs as. For me it was running as "local machine". Once I corrected that my shares came up as expected." I am not sure what he did with "local Machine", so I havent tried it. Another post: "I read through this and another thread and after changing the Emby Service to my personal Admin account I now get Direct Playing show up on a couple of systems that were being tetchy, I still cannot directly browse to the shares (only shows 2 or 3 of the networked systems and can't scroll down or such) but the important part is DIRECT PLAYING :)" Which I am not sure how to check or move, so I havent done that either. The answer in that post stated that: "You need to make sure that the user account EMBY is running as has access to your shared drives. Just because your use account has access to the shares does not mean that EMBY does. Also you should not use Mapped Drive as they are unreliable. You should use the UNC path instead." Which is the exact issue I have. When I stated the app thing above in the last post I was referring to the DLNA play different from the emby app. Sorry I did not make that clear. The server is transcoding differently for the DLNA icon in network than it does for the emby win10 app. I am certain that the issue lies between win10 and emby server. The settings, wrong user account, etc. I just don't know where it is, which keeps me from fixing it. If the admin account and/or "local machine" works, then I would say its an install issue but at least I can fix it with proper instruction. I do not know how they did what they did to fix it. I know from the win7 I had to use the network or it would not direct play period. So this is the issue, if emby cant find the shares it cant direct play. Again, I do not have the option to allow access to shared drives in emby as the post suggest. I did see it on a dummy account I set up, then it vanished and did not appear on any other dummy account. For clarification all my shared drives on my network can be seen and accessed (with read/write) by devices and pcs with no issue behind Norton firewall. So it is some kind of conflict between win10 and ebmy server. I am more thinking its a win10 account issue even though I set my profile up as an admin.
Solution Luke 42078 Posted July 23, 2018 Solution Posted July 23, 2018 Then I think everything is fine. The store app doesn't support all audio formats so you will see some occasional audio conversion. You may wish to try the desktop app instead. 1
blumamba 10 Posted July 24, 2018 Author Posted July 24, 2018 Ok. I feel stupid now. Wrong app. Works fine. I apologize. I for some reason thought they were one in the same? Opps. Thanks for setting me straight!
Luke 42078 Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 We hope to merge them in the future. Thanks for the feedback.
