infinitereality 6 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) After many years of MB versions and then Emby, I finally took the time to wipe my SSD for a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. Got it all wiped, Win7 & drivers installed. This is same copy I used for original install on HTPC. Didn't install any extra programs as this HTPC is dedicated to the movie room. Downloaded all new Emby files. Emby for WMC installed fine, no issues. Went to install the server and I get the window that pops up that says it's downloading, expanding files and then it goes away and nothing more happens. I also downloaded the portable version of it and tried to use it, with no different outcome. I tried downloading the files several times in case it was corrupt somehow, but same issue persists. I also found and downloaded previous version of it, but same outcome. I also tried the same previous version on my desktop computer (Win10) and works fine. I do have new hardware in my HTPC if it matters. Since I just built a new desktop so I migrated old desktop hardware into my HTPC case (mobo, processor, memory).... If it helps, specs are i5 3570K (3.4GHz), 16gb RAM, ASrock motherboard, 120gb Crucial SSD Any ideas? I was excited to have a fresh start, but for the life of me I can't figure out what the deal is. I'd rather keep using WIn7 if at all possible, but guess I could use Win10 if I had to. I prefer WMC, but I think they stopped it after Win7, right? Edited February 12, 2018 by infinitereality
ryandavidg 30 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) Do you have SP1 and all the Windows Updates installed? The Net Core version of Emby (standard when downloading now) requires those and that is the advice for new installs on Win 7. (If you don't want to install every single update this may help: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/windows-prerequisites?tabs=netcore2x ) Edited February 12, 2018 by ryandavidg 1

I do have SP1 installed and Windows is all up to date. Also after Server extracts the file and the window disappears, there is a Server app in my start menu. It doesn't have the Emby icon (has some default system icon) and when I click it, nothing happens. I'm at a loss as to why I'm having issues, it's weird and never had this issue ever before using it.
Solution Luke 42083 Posted February 12, 2018 Solution Posted February 12, 2018 It sounds like you are still missing windows updates. can you try running windows updates again? 2
infinitereality 6 Posted February 12, 2018 Author Posted February 12, 2018 Sure thing, will be glad to. I'll report back afterwards. Thanks!
infinitereality 6 Posted February 12, 2018 Author Posted February 12, 2018 Think you may called it Luke! 2 days after the wipe and letting windows update, like SP1, all of a sudden I habe 125 new "important" updates that just mow showed up after work today. I think once it's done, I likely should be up and running...fingers crossed!
Happy2Play 9783 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 You shouldn't have any issues once fully updated. Can't remember if I had to run Windows Update 2 or 3 times to update the updates in my clean install test of Windows 7.
infinitereality 6 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 I'm back in business! Sorry for jumping the gun on why it wouldn't install, I honestly thought my computer was fully up-to-date. I keep going back to updating windows and it's still finding stuff to install, lol. Not doing this for a while, I'm learning as I go. I searched for a clear answer to it, and I think I've found it, but wanted to double check... There is no more IBN folder anymore, it's now metadata folder. Is this the proper directory I need to copy all the stuff that was in my IBN folder? C:\Users\HTPC-Z77\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\metadata\people\ Thanks again for straightening me out the Server issue, MUCH appreciated!

Depending on what you are coping over, the metadata folder would be the same as IBN folder.
infinitereality 6 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Depending on what you are coping over, the metadata folder would be the same as IBN folder. It appeared everything I had in the IBN folder was folder with people's names with pics. On my previous setup, I had it all pointing to a spot on a HDD. I'll have to do some re-reading though so I can change the default again. Apparently over the past decade I have collected 75gb worth of stuff in the IBN folder and I'm only running a 120gb SSD which has only 55gb of free space, go figure. Debating on purchasing a similar size SSD to add to it or a bigger SSD and re-setup everything again so Emby has quick access to it. Dang it, lol.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 (edited) You can configure Metadata, Cache, and Transcoding temp folder locations. Cache - Dashboard-Settings-Cache path Transcoding temp - Dashboard-Ttranscoding-Transcoding temp path Metadata -Dashboarde-Library-Advanced Note all these paths will make a self named sub-folder. So if you move them point them to something like X:\Emby\ and each will create there own sub-folder. You would move your IBN content into X:\Emby\metadata. Depending on how old your IBN\People folder is you may have to manually put them in People\A to Z folders. Edited February 13, 2018 by Happy2Play

I ended up ordering a new 256GB SSD, figured it'd make the system a little faster overall and plus I can use the old SSD for my shop computer which should help it out. Plan to swap it out this evening and start another fresh install of Win7. Not looking forward to it, but hope it'll be worth it in the end. I don't remember the exact folder layout, but seems like inside the IBN everything had either literal A-Z folders and inside them where actors name folders. Or maybe it was just actor names folder. My IBN folder was 9yrs old and had been through MB2, MB3 and Emby upgrades.
