muratpak 1 Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Lovely app. I've tried a lot of things, emby wins with it simplicity and magical powers for me. I would like to understand how "genres" work -- I assumed they are auto extracted from movies but after a full metadata refresh of my whole library the "genres" section for my emby medi a server is still empty. Any guidance about this is appreciated, if there is a way to auto extract genres from movies.
aspdend 177 Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 in my experience, the genres are filled in automatically with each movie or tv episode with a metadata refresh - the info is pulled down from tmdb or tvdb - if available. 1
Solution ebr 16192 Posted December 4, 2017 Solution Posted December 4, 2017 Hi and welcome. If your items have pre-existing .nfo files then that is where our metadata will come from so they would need to contain the genres. Have you enabled downloading of metadata from the internet? 1

For me it wasn't there! Hi and welcome. If your items have pre-existing .nfo files then that is where our metadata will come from so they would need to contain the genres. Have you enabled downloading of metadata from the internet? This seems to fix the issue! I've re-created all of the nfo files (deleted, and recached) - this seems to fix the issue! Thank you, compared to the competitor, plex, I love how direct and easy to use emby is!
