mporcas 3 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 HI, I'm not sure if this is covered in a different post but I can't find it! Prior to the last major MBS update I had what I considered the perfect (for me!) setup for having a 2 year old that loves Peppa Pig etc.! I have 3HDDs with my media on. 1) Movies (not for her) 2) TV Shows (again not for her) & 3) two folders, one with movies and the other with TV shows, specifically for the little 'un. I have 2 users setup. 1) Admin with access to everything and 2) Chloe, who had a custom library setup for her things. Since the update, it seems that her custom library has disappeared and she's been given access to everything. (not ideal!) I've tried limiting access based on rating but 'PG' covers everything from DreamWorks Dragons (which she LOVES!) to Arrow (really not appropriate!) What happened to my custom library? Has it been deleted because the movie and TV show collections had the same names as their counterparts in the main library?? Is there another workaround that would still enable everything to be available in the two main collections but still have two separate, limited collections for my daughter?? Thanks guys, Martin
CBers 7450 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 They are all currently shared after the latest release. You need to go into your daughter's profile, then into Library Access and uncheck what you don't want her seeing.
Tikuf 663 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) No but because of the changes you will have to uncheck some tick boxes in her profile Edit: As Keith said. Edited March 3, 2014 by Tikuf 1
mporcas 3 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Ah, the problem here is that I only have 2 items listed! (Movies & TV Shows) I think I'm going to have to have a closer look at how the library's set up as I must be missing something. I don't need separate collections do I? I'd rather not as it may be difficult to remember what's in which folder when using the adult profile. Thanks!
Tikuf 663 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Ya i can see your dilemma here but I have the kids stuff in separate folders for just this reason that way I don't have to worry about ratings. I can just put stuff in there for them to watch that way there will never be a case of my 5 yo watching Hostel and never sleeping again (Her older sister delights in scaring her lol).
CBers 7450 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 @@mporcas - you could create seperate Kids TV and Kids Movies and allow yourself and you daughter access. That's what I have done, and also looks like what Tikuf has done.
mporcas 3 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) I know I could create additional collections but I'd rather not. I love the fact that MB3 will combine folders within collections and want to use that. I already have the files in different folders (actually a different drive!) for her. That's why I used the custom libraries that only looked at that drive. Could it be as simple as that the folders on the kids drive (i.e. F:\Movies and F:\TV Shows) have the same name as the collections?? Tikuf - are all the items in your screen shot single physical folders or are they collections that point to one or more physical folders? I want to be sure we're not confusing terminology here! Thanks Edited March 3, 2014 by mporcas
Tikuf 663 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Each one is its own folder of items Bar the tv folder which has two locations (one for finished tv series and one for ongoing). While It does create a lot of items on the ehs which can be a bit of a pain at times it gives me the best control over who sees what it also breaks down my largish size library into more manageable chunks.
Solution mporcas 3 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Solution Posted March 3, 2014 Yeah, there's the problem, I only want one for TV and one for films (at least on the parents profile). Maybe if I create 4 collections. 2 parents collections which cover the two locations and 2 kids collections that only include the kids drive. I'd hide the kids one from the parents and vice-versa. That ought to work, as long as they have different names (i.e. Movies and Films, TV Shows and TV) Thanks
ebr 16177 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 For clarification - the sharing is done at the "Media Folder" level and each of those can have multiple "Media Locations" just as before. Tikuf has just chosen to make his media folders pretty much match up with locations. You should be able to get the exact same setup you had before with the exception of the folder names. Each one needs to have a unique name. So, as you said: Movies - pointing to just the kid's locations Films - pointing to all locations And then give the kids access to "Movies" and you access to "Films".
mporcas 3 Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Thanks guys, I think we've worked it out together!! I set it up with two new collections as we covered above and it all works fine now. Thanks again!
