anyone else having issues with some movies not working? i'm on server version 3.2.34.0 and i have several movies that will not play on my nexus player or in the web player. i've tried chrome, brave, internet explorer, and edge and the won't play in any of them. however the same movies will play on my android phone and also in emby theater. some examples of movies that won't play, war for planet of the apes, baby driver, the hitman's body guard. ones that will play are amityville, the dark tower, spider man homecoming. the only thing i can think of thats causing it is subtitles? on the dashboard it will show me trying to play something on the nexus player and on the nexus player it just sits there and spins until it says to many errors/tries. if i try playing something through the web player it doesn't even show me trying to play something on the dashboard.

anyone have any ides?

So these are completed recordings?

these aren't recordings, they are movie rips.

Then why is it playing through server wmc? That is adding a whole extra level of complication. Instead just add the library to Emby as a regular Emby library and play it that way.

Additionally, try deleting this folder:

C:\Users\Brad Moses\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\ffmpeg\20160410\

Then restart the server and see if that helps. Thanks.

i have no idea about that, as i said the same files that don't play on the nexus player or the web app are working fine in emby theater and the android app. i have my movie library setup as such. my parents are watching live tv right now as well, thats probably what you are seeing with serverwmc in the logs. i'll try deleting that folder, i did have a custom ffmpeg i was using and switched back to the server one when i was testing and it didn't change anything. it will be a bit before i can test that and i'll report back.

did this and now its pointing to C:\Users\Brad Moses\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\ffmpeg\20170308\ but after testing it didn't change anything. there is also an update to .25 server this morning but i can't get it to install, the server never relaunches itself after applying the update and when i launch it manually its back to the .24 version.

Try just installing from the website.

reinstalled from the website, tried war for planet of the apes in chrome using the web player and same thing. have an ffmpeg process orphaned and the screen just sits there with a spinning circle. no indication on the dashboard i'm trying to play anything either. I've attached server and ffmpeg logs from this attempt.

i made a copy of my emby server install folder and then updated to the beta to test and it did the same thing there too. i reverted back to the stable release for now.

also tried going back several versions and it was still doing the same thing. (assuming replacing the files in the system folder with older versions is all that is needed to rollback to older versions) it has to be something with subtitles as thats what it said it was transcoding for when it finally did play and the movies that are working fine don't list anything for subtitles under the media info section.

ok, i think i "Fixed" it or at least found a setting thats making things work now. under the transcoding section i did NOT have checked the "allow subtitle extraction on the fly" setting. once i checked that things started working right away. i had unchecked that a long time ago so i don't know at what point that setting broke things, but having it checked now seems to have taken care of things for the time being.

When you uncheck that it will cause subtitles to be burned in on the fly. For some systems this can be painful and degrade performance to such a degree that it wont' play very well.

ok, thanks for the explanation. the way i read the tooltip was that i needed to uncheck that setting in order to be less taxing on the system and checking it would be the more taxing option. so i had it opposite of what it really was.

Which way is more or less taxing depends on exactly what kind of subtitles you have.  Just FYI.
