Hello, Im new to Emby. I was a Plex user before but after trying Emby i liked it more.

But after setting up my library I have this problem which is very annoying for. The problem is I cant get the special episodes to show up in the Next up section.

For example i was watching episode special number 3 but in the "Next up" it show season 2 episode 1,

Everything is fine in the metadata and all the information about Seasons are there.

Maybe there is an option to do this?

Can someone tell me how to fix this? In Plex I didnt have this kind of problem.

Regards

It sounds like the special aired just before season 2, so going by aired dates S2E1 would be next

Not 100%, but have a look at this option, it might fix the issue

the specials are appearing inside the correct seasons but they are never on "Next up" and I have the problem in all the specials from different shows. like i said in plex its working fine. and i am using the tvdb scrapper on both servers.

For your above example, after watching Special 3, Next Up will show the next aired episode after that special

What aired after the special, another special or S2E1?

Here is an example of one of mine, special number 1 here

http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=79912&seasonid=27304&lid=7

After i have watched S2E8 it will place that first special in Next Up

After i have watched the special, S3E1 will be next up (it wont be special 2)

Yes after the special it should play the next special after. actually it should play all the first season specials first then start with 2nd season.

Its an anime but i dont think that would make a difference.

I just tried and copied the 2nd season folder to my desktop to try and trigger the next up for the specials. but now i dont have a next up section for this show. its just refusing to show any special episodes.

all the special episodes have the right data about release data absolute order and dvd number etc..

the problem is happening with all clients (android, theater, web).

edit: this is the link for an anime im watching: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=173271&seasonid=272141&lid=7

If the show is correctly recognized and matched to that metadata then things should play in the order shown in season 1 and 2 for that show on tvdb.  That works in my experience.  The content that doesn't match up to the specials shown in seasons 1 and 2 on tvdb won't auto play or show as next up.  For example, I just finished a series with 12 specials on the discs but only 1 listed in TVDB, which is set to air after season 1.  That 1 special autoplayed as expected.  The other 11 specials have to be launched manually.  I COULD edit their metadata to add the airs before/after data but I'm not going to.

Yes, I checked all the episodes and everything is fine, they have all the correct information. maybe I need to enable something in the server? Ive been trying to fix this for sometime now and still cant figure out what's the problem, if its working for others it should also work for me :(. i created a new library and still the same result, cant get the specials to show up as next episode.

I just did a full reinstall of the server and still same result...

Then you probably need to post the metadata of an episode

Here are different metadatas for different episodes. so after episode1x13 episode0x1 should play until the end on the season 1 specials and then start with season 2.

but in my case it is always displaying season 2 as next up and ignoring all the specials before it.

edit: in the image its clear there are still episodes in the season 1 "all of them are specials" and they are being ignored.

Those are xml files which Emby only supports if you install the xml plugin.  I didn't check their format to see if they're any good even with the plugin.  They also suggest your naming format might cause you some issues.

Here are the steps I would take:

1. Install the xml metadata plugin, run a library scan, and try again.

2. If it doesn't work, remove the folder for this show.

3. Run a library scan.

4. While the scan runs, remove the existing xml files and any other metadata/pictures from the show folder.

5. If it isn't already, name the show folder to match the show name on tvdb.

6. If it isn't already, sort the files into season folders for season 00, season 01, and season 02.

7. Make sure your episode file names are in a supported format.  <Show Title> S<Season Number>E<Episode Number> <Episode Title>.EXT is my preference, for example, Young Justice S02E01 Happy New Year.mkv.  See the naming wiki for other options.

8. Move the folder back into your library and run a library scan.

I would guess one of those two sets clears this.

Ah,, ,but some people said its working for them. Im confused now.

Maybe adding an option to play files in the absolute order would fix the problem. I really dont know but this is really important to me :(

Trust @@Luke.  I just tested it and while my special that was set to play after season 1 does autoplay after I finished the last episode of season 1, it does not populate Next Up when I select the series.

+1

I'd specifically like OVAs for anime to show up in Next Up, that would be pretty cool

Any update on this? I'd really like to see this feature.

Would be awesome if it can be configured per library. Because this will be only needed on anime libraries anyway.

Not necessarily. Battlestar Galactica and Top Gear are a couple series that would benefit from this as well.

Agreed. British shows have a ton of situations like this as well. Doctor Who, Down Abbey, Sherlock, etc...

Collections and playlists don't, but should, work with Next Up as well.
