Missing episodes inside BDMV folder?

Based on TV naming convention specified on this page, I had bluray rips organized into the following format:

\TV

    \Show

          \Season 1

               \Show S01E01-02

                      \BDMV

               \Show S01E03-04

                      \BDMV

The problem is, only one episode would play. There wasn't a link/dialog/option for me to choose the second episode. The playback status also only shows the length of the first episode only. I allowed the first episode to finish playing until the end, hoping the second episode would load next but nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi, what Emby app are you trying to play from?

Hi, what Emby app are you trying to play from?

I've used web browser, Roku, Kodi they all have the same problem.

The web browser and Roku do not support folder rips directly and therefore require server transcoding. Server transcoding of folder rips is something we only consider experimental, so please keep that in mind.

Kodi does support folder rips natively, and you should be seeing the actual bluray menu. If there isnt' a menu, then it should be jumping straight to the video.

For the best experience possible I would strongly suggest the use of video files.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I just checked Kodi again, the same problem is found. The menu doesn't show up and it jumps straight to episode 1. From there, I haven't found a way to access episode 2. Playing until the end of episode 1 doesn't automatically jump to episode 2 either. Using next chapter button just jumps to the end of episode 1 and playback stops.

Other BDMV folders with more than one episode inside exhibits the same problem. I have no way of accessing any episode other than the first.

I used VLC to verify that there are indeed more than one episode but Emby just doesn't see them. I haven't tried Emby on AppleTV yet but I doubt it would be able to tell either.

I could definitely use makemkv but just curious why this isn't working the way it's supposed to.

Apple TV will be the same as Roku. For Roku, Apple TV and the web app this is all expected behavior. Kodi on the other hand you should be seeing the bluray menu.

I know in order for this to work you will need to make sure the kodi instance has direct access to the folder path, because if it doesn't then it will need to stream it through the server and then the same rules apply as the web app.

hah, that's it. Currently there is no direct access to folder path, that's why. I will fix it, thanks!

After giving Kodi direct access, the bluray menu comes up right away. But I noticed another problem: the metadata pop-up only shows the first episode inside the BDMV folder regardless which episode is being played.

For example, when E02 inside the S01E01-02 folder is playing, the description/synopsis is for E01. When E04 inside the S01E03-04 folder is playing, the episode description is for E03.

It's not a major issue but I thought I should report it here anyway.

One question that I didn't ask before is, does Emby team plan on adding the capability to send to Kodi the correct episode information when multiple episodes are located on one single disc?

Of course Kodi brings up the blu-ray menu but it only displays the metadata for first episode of the multiple episodes located on the same disc no matter which episode I'm playing.

Is this even an Emby issue? Partially I think it is because even the web app doesn't provide episode info and also another issue I alluded to above is, the web app is limited to playing the first episode of the disc where multiple episodes are located because there is no blu-ray menu function for the web app to go to the second or third episodes located on the same disc.

I think Emby should at the minimum provide the capability to web app to play subsequent episodes. Once Emby is given the capability to recognize and play additional episodes, I am guessing it shouldn't be too hard at that point to provide metadata for the correct episodes being played. Please consider adding these, thanks!

I really recommend breaking those episodes out into separate files.  That will solve all of these issues.

However, we already have the capability to designate that there are multiple episodes within one item.  Edit the metadata and see if you can figure out how.

(I'm not trying to be obtuse - I want to be sure it is obvious once you get there)
