Netbug 26 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I apologize if this is not the correct location for this question. I'm just looking to gain some understanding. My cousin, when accessing my server, seems to put an incredible strain on the system running the Emby server; so much so, that other people are unable to watch anything when she is doing so. So I disabled her ability to playback media that required transcoding. That solved the problem, but now whenever my cousin tries to play something from the server, there is no audio. I would assume that what is happening here, is that the video did not require any transcoding, but the audio did, and that was putting strain on the system. Would this be due to her missing some codecs? She normally uses Emby through Firefox on a Windows machine. How can I further track down what's causing the problem? Thanks.
Solution Luke 42085 Posted April 10, 2017 Solution Posted April 10, 2017 If you are disabling transcoding then your options are: Limit playback to video files with h264 video and aac/mp3 audio Use a different Emby app that can handle more formats without transcoding, such as Emby for Android or Emby Theater desktop 1
Netbug 26 Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 Thanks, Luke. So just so I'm clear, when using the Emby theater app (or one of the mobile apps), the transcoding is handled by the client machine instead of the server, correct?
Luke 42085 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Not necessarily 100% of the time but considerably more often, yes.
