mbguy 40 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Hi, after some testing I noticed that certain media files are not showing up on MBC because they are located inside a folder with brackets [ ] in the folder name. I'm using proper UNC path and all my other media not inside brakcets in the folder name show up just fine. Is this by design or there is a solution I can use? Server Version 3.0.5135.31685 MBC Version 3.0.127.0 2-9.1
Luke 42077 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 can you give more information? screenshots, examples? what is the result in the web client?
mbguy 40 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) More details: it seems all files and folders 2nd level deep on the UNC path are not showing up on MBC, whether they are inside a folder with [ ] in the folder name or not. To be more specific, these are my examples: Media Folder: Movies \\PC\Movies -- all my movies show up on MBC Media Folder: New Movies \\PC\Movies\2004 -- none of the movies show up on MBC When I click on or enter "New Movies" I just get "No items" on the screen, that's it. Luke 42077 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I would love to help, but I need all of the information that was requested.
mbguy 40 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Screenshot attached, I also tested with web client and iOS client, they give the same result: no items.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) Neither of your examples have brackets in the names. Can you open a command prompt and enter this command: tree /a \\PC\movies\2004 > c:\movie_tree.txt Attach the output. Edited February 9, 2014 by Wayne Luke
ebr 16169 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 So you created a Media Folder on the server that points to a sub-directory of a folder that is already a media location of another Media Folder? I didn't think we allowed that. Maybe nothing, but "2004" wouldn't be new movies - is that a typo in your forum post or did you accidentally point your media folder to a non-existent folder? 1
mbguy 40 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Nevermind, after testing further, it seems MB Server can only accept media location at the root of the UNC path like this: \\PC\accepted But not \\PC\Movies\Not accepted Once I create a new root share path for whatever folder I want, such as turning \\PC\Movies\2004 into a \\PC\2004 then MB Server will be able to accept this media location for a new media folder. Not sure if this is intended design or Windows limitations. Maybe there is a more elegant way to do this?
mbguy 40 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) So you created a Media Folder on the server that points to a sub-directory of a folder that is already a media location of another Media Folder?yes, that's correct. Maybe nothing, but "2004" wouldn't be new movies - is that a typo in your forum post or did you accidentally point your media folder to a non-existent folder?Yes it's a typo, what I meant is I put new movies this year manually in a Windows folder called "2014" and create a MB media folder called "New Movies" and point it to this "2014" as media location, and yes this "2014" media location is already inside another media location, ie. \\PC\Movies\2014. I know there are different filters and views that can sort but I just want the MB media folder called "New Movies" at the root of the library when logging in to get to these movies or shows faster. I just wish there is a way to get MB to recognize media locations at \\PC\Movies\2014 without having to create a new share on Windows called \\PC\2014 Edited February 9, 2014 by mbguy
ebr 16169 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I don't think the problem is the share setup. I have different location in different sub folders of the same share no problem. The issue is that it is a sub-set of something you have already defined to the library. I thought we validated such that it wouldn't allow you to do that. You are duplicating the same items in two different places and this will probably have side-effects in other areas. 1
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I just wish there is a way to get MB to recognize media locations at \\PC\Movies\2014 without having to create a new share on Windows called \\PC\2014 I just have a single share "media". My movie folders are defined like this: \\servername\media\movies\Movies 0-9 \\servername\media\movies\Movies A-E ... \\servername\media\movies\New Movies each folder is defined as a Media Folder in MBS. 1
mbguy 40 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 So MB Server does allow subfolder sharing for different Media Folders, I wonder why mine is not working until I create a new share.

mbguy 40 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) I just have a single share "media". My movie folders are defined like this: \\servername\media\movies\Movies 0-9 \\servername\media\movies\Movies A-E ... \\servername\media\movies\New Movies each folder is defined as a Media Folder in MBS. Is it possible that if each sub-folder is included in a new media folder without overlap then it works? If I understood you correctly, my issue is that I already have a media folder called "Movies" that includes all the subfolders including the "2014" that's why I try to create a new media folder called "2014" pointing to this subfolder, it shows "No Items". mbguy 40 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 I used to be able to do this in MB2, I guess the design has been updated?
Solution Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted February 9, 2014 Solution Posted February 9, 2014 I believe the system has changed so the server can send items to multiple devices easier. 1
