Media Meta Data Disappears

Recently I have been having a strange issue where the artwork or sometimes episodes will completely disappear.

For example today when MediaBrowser classic would open there would be no collections just a blank page. I closed and relaunched the server did the same to Media Center. The collection folders reappeared after that. However, the all the episodes were missing.

To solve the problem I had to go into the meta data manager and refresh each collection manually. (which takes quite a while) After that the episodes return and all is well.

This has been happening in the past couple of weeks. Sometimes the episodes will be there but the thumbnails will be missing so it will just display a clear folder image with title of the episode until i refresh the metadata.

Also is there a way to retrieve the logs through the Internet browser interface? If not that would be really handy so I don't have to remote into the server when I need to pull them.

This happened to me in my TV series collection with Chocolate theme the other day.  A lot of the cover images just disappeared.

I restarted MBC and that seemed to fix it.  Only happened the one time though so not too concerned just yet.

Is your media being accessed over a network?  Any chance either the network connection or the drives the media are on went to sleep?

Yes over the network  For me it is certainly possible that this happened in that particular instance.  It was a few days ago and I don't recall exactly what I was doing.

Will try to pay more attention if it happens again.

My media drive is local, and the only way I've got it to return is refreshing the metadata and child items.

Update! Turns out I had a failing sata controller causing the drive to lose connection.

Thanks for the help!

Heh.  I feel like strange storage issues tend to be the root of all the hardest to diagnose problems.

I had issues with Trailers stuttering and couldn't even stream shoutcast to my system without stuttering for the longest time.  I replaced almost every piece of my system and connection in trying to resolve it.  Then there was a sale on SSDs one day so I bought a new one, popped it in, and ALL of my little annoying problems that I could never figure out vanished.

So many other things have been fixed for me at work by analyzing the storage I/O.

From now on I start looking at storage for issues almost right away with any weird persistent problem I start having.
