Transcoding/Direct Stream Question

Hi again, (Still playing with the new roku install...)

 

Just watching two different shows recorded by Emby (HDHomeun Extend), one direct streams and the other transcodes. They are both 1920x1080 and AC3 with similar bitrates, so i don't see what the determining factor so i can understand why and maybe make a change to lower the server load.

Ok, nevermind. I figured out they are identical in every way EXCEPT for one is interlaced (1080i) and not supported on the Roku....

Follow-up for curiosity. What is it getting transcoded to then? 1080i -> ?

Yea i don't think Roku supports that.

@@Luke It definitely doesnt support 1080i, just curious what emby transcoded the video to? 720p? or what

It transcoded to 1080p.
