Using No-IP details in MBT instead of localhost or IP address

Sorry if this should be in another area of the forum but after searching I can't find an answer so thought I would pose it here.....

I am using no-ip to allow me to use the Server version (my ISP is always changing my external IP address, so this is an easier set up for me instead of the whatismyip and continual change route)

Whilst I like and use the web version, I Love the look of MBT and would prefer to use this on my tablet/laptops whilst away from home.

I know I can use the external IP  instead of localhost or internal ip address and MBT works.  Is it possible instead of using these, to use my no-ip web address instead?  I had tried around Christmas time whilst away it but had no luck.

If it isn't, can I add this to a wishlist?

Cheers

It is possible to use a dynamic dns name to access your server, yes.  Whether or not MBT will work well across the internet, I'm not sure.

I use a No-IP address to access my server with the web client and Android all the time.  You need to make sure you have your router setup properly for port-forwarding, etc.

MBT actually works ok across the internet for me.  My upload at home is almost 20mb and most of the place I go such as work and family homes have good download speeds.  It work well when I use the:

External IP (instead of localhost or internal IP)

Port Number

Does this mean that in the MBT settings are when setting up the Server connection, instead of external IP  I can type in the http://blahblah.no-ipblahblah without the :8096/mediabrowser bit and the port number and it would work?

No.  :8096/mediabrowser  is required part (if about web access).

Brilliant, I am off home in an hour. I will try it out then and report back my findings :)

Sparrowlogins,

I use No-Ip for external access as well, using the Web Client and Android app.  I also use MBT for access at home and just went into the MBT Settings under NETWORK and input my no-ip address in the MB SERVER HOST NAME OR IP ADDRESS field. There is a separate field for MB SERVER PORT NUMBER and I left that field populated with 8096.  MBT recognized the change and then allowed me to log back in with this address. I am currently at home, but it verifies that you can input your no-ip address and login. I also pulled up a 720p MKV file with Dolby 5.1 audio and it played just fine. Obviously, access speeds outside the home network will determine how effective an option this may be.

Cheers and good luck.

In MBT change the "localhost" to the full domain name eg.: blade005.no-ip.biz
