Tearing my hair out over poster images

Just created a "new" media library containing only MP4's. One folder called MP4's, flat structure with all movies having the name structure "Movie Name - Main feature.mp4". I lovingly copied a load of poster images with the name structure "Movie Name - Main feature-poster.jpg". Ran the 'Scan Library' task, and damn, all my posters were replaced with 16:9 jpgs's that looked like frame grabs from the movie! In addition, all the Movie Names in the metadata have been set to 'Main feature', sigh.

a) How do I stop this?, and B) How do I make sure it never happens again?, and c) how do I coax Emby into actually pulling down the correct information.

If it makes any difference I'm running 3.1.2, and incidentally, my library of "incorrectly" structured folders, (i.e. folder called "Moviename" with one MKV per folder, and all metadata for that MKV in that folder) works just fine. I'm at a loss

FYI, that's not incorrect.  That's just about the ideal.

The best result for movies, in my experience is one folder per movie.  The folder has the name of the movie as it's listed on TMDB, including the year in parentheses.  I give the movie file in that folder the same name and the trailer file has the same name with - trailer appended to the end.  There are other options listed on the naming wiki, none of the ones I recall sound much like your failing library btw, but what I described works flawlessly in my experience.  I'm not surprised your results are similar.

Sorry for the delay, I'm run off my feet with other issues until the weekend. Luke, here's a shot of the "flat" files. Deathsquirrel suggested my prior structure was correct, and since this works for my other libraries, I'll try reverting to that and see what happens. I must confess, although I was sure I had interpreted the wiki correctly, I was reluctant to switch away from the "one folder per movie" model anyway.

Stay tuned, I probably won't get to try this until the weekend.

I should have mentioned also - the "Main feature" thing comes from CloneBD, maybe that's the principal problem; the "-poster" seemed like the wiki-approved naming mechanism. As usual when I screw up, I suspect there is more than one thing going wrong at once here :-)

OK, found a couple of minutes to build a small version of the "one folder per movie" model - works perfectly! Thanx for the suggestions/help/advice, guess I need to go back and study the "read, learn, and inwardly digest" model from Grade 1 comprehension class. Sigh.

Your original structure was fine too.

Your original structure was fine too.

Was about to say the same thing.  I'd suggest changing your naming scheme to match TMDB as that gives a more consistent name match, but all the movies in one folder is fine.

That said, I don't recommend it for large collections on Windows servers.  Windows file system performance goes to hell when you get more than a few thousand files in a single folder.

Didn't the OP say they preferred the recommended one folder or movie anyway
