CharleyVarrick 283 Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Please note: I posted this originally in Kodi skin support section, AngelBlue, thinking it might be a Emby feature, suggested I post here instead Sorry in advanced if this has been brought up already, I guess I did not find the proper key words... In Kodi, I was browsing TV SHOWS/Actors when I noticed some appearing more than once, but followed with (Season x), eg: Zachary Quinto Zachary Quinto (Season 1) If I select the later, it points me to American Horror Story season1 When I go in Emby/media/tv shows/American Horror Story and scroll down, I see the actor entry displayed with "Season 1". What's causing this, is it Kodi, Emby, some scraper ? Thanks!
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 I've browsed the Kodi Movie actors many times before, but it might just have been my first time doing so in TV actors. I have to say I'm not impressed by this. Trying to figure out how to merge those dupe actors...
Solution Happy2Play 9783 Posted November 19, 2016 Solution Posted November 19, 2016 What ever user that input the metadata on TVDB added "season x" to there name. So it ends up creating duplicates. Only way to merge the dups is by updating the series, season, episode metadata with proper name (without season x). Best bet is update provider site so future refreshes correct the issue. example issues http://thetvdb.com/?tab=actors&id=250487 1
Luke 42083 Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Yea shame on whoever did that. That's really bad from the standpoint of having a people database. 1
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted November 20, 2016 Author Posted November 20, 2016 (edited) So far I found quite a few, but fortunately all related to only 2 tv series, American Horror Story and American Crime...same deal: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=actors&id=281613 Makes no senses whatsoever to do that. They're already complaining about it on their own forum, https://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?f=85&p=106993&sid=454857890f45c67cf38ae39f07a9a20b#p106993 Edited November 20, 2016 by jlr19
Happy2Play 9783 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 (edited) Well I see why someone would do it since TVDB does not have season level metadata like TMDB does. The actor can not be listed more than onces so they modified the name to list them and there character for each season. No too many series have the same actors become new characters every season. CharleyVarrick 283 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) Good news, tvDB seemed to have cleaned up their act regarding this mess. Actor names (season#) are not coming up anymore on emby server side. To fix it on Kodi's side, from recent experience, we have to delete related nfo's (and make sure episodes are re-scrapped) Edited January 11, 2017 by jlr19
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) I might have spoken too soon, those goofy names followed by season # are not coming up, but proper actual tv show actor names aren't as well. When in Emby server/media/tv show, if I select a tv show, I see "some" Cast & Crew, but it looks scarce, considering its a complete tv show. If I select a season, no cast & crew (is this expected?) If I select an episode, no Cast & Crew, or just Crew, although for a few show some Cast appears. I notice results vary greatly from one show to the other, I could supply specific examples if needed It is very likely to be (again) our friends over at tvDB that are causing those inconsistent results? CharleyVarrick 283 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) This might explain why I'm getting nothing as far as Season metadata: TheMovieDB is the only provider for tv show Season Shouldn't there be other choices there? Edited January 11, 2017 by jlr19
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 TVdb and TVmaze, or other tv-related scraper the name of which escape me at the moment I do get that the movieDB does tv stuff and movies... It would be real nice if, from this Metadata/services screen, we would get access to all possible metadata downloaders and Image Fetchers choices, and then truly choose which we want as our #1. Right now, that choice has already been made on my behalf.
Luke 42083 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 tvdb does not have season level metadata, neither does Omdb, other than images and we already have an option for that. What we could do instead is just remove all season metadata support so that you never have an opportunity to think that something is wrong.
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 OK, so that answers my previous question "is it normal to have no (or very little) data at season level" As for the episodes level, I've made a few spot-checks over at tvdb and it looks like the problem originates from over there What got me confused for a while is Kodi was still giving me (what seemed like) complete Episode Cast list, while Emby didn't. Not sure I understand the mechanics of it exactly but it must be "older" data that was deleted sometime ago (at tvdb), Kodi retained whatever it got back then, but Emby was later updated by tvdb, and as a result, shows less details. It has to be around those lines, as where would Kodi have picked those actors/characters name but from Emby.
