Cannot scan after server update, Value cannot be null. Parameter name: path

I built a media pc and cut the cord back when... windows 7 was still 'new'.  I used mediabrowser, then emby, and have been very slow to keep up with all the #&%#@!%& maintenance.

Still never installed Win7 SP1, for example.  Ive been ignoring errors in Emby Theater since sometime this summer.  Now it won't launch anymore.  Tried to install an update... need SP1 to get .net... etc.... working on all that - no problem yet.

Running windows server 2012 R2 standard on ESXi 5.5 on a HP DL180 G6.  While waiting for maintenance installs on the win7 client pc, I updated server from 3.0.56xx to 3.0.8400

Install went ok, but media scan fails.  Log says 'Value cannot be null. Parameter name: path'.  I removed all libraries, rebooted windows server, added new libraries, same error.  My media folders are local to the windows server vm.  Log attached.

I have no movies or media in Emby when I view the web interface.

PS: this is why I dont do maintenance.  Everything breaks, it takes days, which spills into weeks, and I have other things in my life beside playing hobby with movie storage.

Upgrading from a version that old is undoubtedly going to require that you rebuild your library database. Shutdown the server. Delete the library. DB from your data folder and then restart the server

The data folder will be found in

c:\users\{user}\appdata\roaming\emby-server\data

Once you've deleted the file and started the server back up, you'll need to run a library scan. thanks !

That worked, I'm back in business.  Thank you.

FYI, folder and process names are still MediaBrowser, not Emby [upgrade legacy?].  Another small issue I've always had is that the web interface is unable to shutdown or restart the service.  Probably a default security thing with IE, I cannot download setup files either - usually drop them on the network from another pc.  Auto update obviously isn't functioning.  I ought to chase that problem one of these years.

The services browser shows neither Emby nor MediaBrowser services as running - used the Resource Monitor to shutdown the server.  This seems new, I seem to recall using the services mmc.  No issue, just doesn't look clean and raises red flags or questions when dealing with other problems.

Thanks for the help.

This is by design. We don't attempt to move any folders as that can be risky. Instead, if you ever uninstall and install fresh, then you'll get the emby-server folder.
