Theodore 136 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I am experimenting with setting up Emby Connect and have successfully added my server and sent an invitation (to myself), but is there something I am missing from THIS GUIDE in how to actually access the server from outside my home network? When I sign in to https://app.emby.media from my phone (on mobile network to test access), I can see my server by name but when I select it i get "The page at https://app.emby.media says: We're unable to connect to the selected server right now." My ISP connection is not a static IP address and I run a Sonicwall firewall. Do I need to get a domain and setup DynDNS? Do I need to allow 8096 from my local Emby server? If so, to what IP address or URL as I would prefer not to just have it open universally if possible. Thank you!
Luke 42085 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I would try it over http. The issue may just be the browser rejecting your ssl cert.

Happy2Play 9784 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) I already am using HTTP. But your post says https://app.emby.media Edited October 29, 2016 by Happy2Play
Theodore 136 Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) But your post says https://app.emby.media Oh! I thought you meant for loading the server in general... I'll give that a go. EDIT: Same thing happens. "Cannot connect right now" Edited October 29, 2016 by Theodore
Luke 42085 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 If you have enabled the option in server settings to report https as your external address, then disable that and try again.

Luke 42085 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Then perhaps it is just unable to connect. I would suggest stepping through our Connection Troubleshooter. Please let us know if all steps in the troubleshooter succeed or if any fail. Thanks !
Happy2Play 9784 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Are you able to connect if you manually enter your server information (add server)?
Theodore 136 Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Are you able to connect if you manually enter your server information (add server)? My internal connection works just fine either through a direct browser URL or when using Emby Connect in-network. Luke's link to the connection troubleshooter answers the question: in order for this to work I need to allow 8096 on my external firewall (SonicWall TZ210). The question I have is does Emby Connect act as a proxy so I can specify a source DNS name or IP address/range? Or is it simply a broker/locator so I have to open it universally?

Luke 42085 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 It is just a locator to save you time from having to remember your ip address. The ports still need to be open.
