RedBaron164 18 Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I just received my new Fire TV Box and have been testing it out. So far I'm happy with it's ability to play x265 and other files directly without transcoding. I also like the Fire TV Emby app much more than the current Roku app. However I've found that Emby still wants to transcode live tv as well as the mpeg2 TV Recordings. Has anyone been able to get the Fire TV box to play live TV without the Emby server transcoding? In the settings I have "Direct Stream live TV" and "Attempt to use VLC for live TV" both checked but I still see ffmpeg running on the server while watching recorded shows and live tv. I've also seen the option "Direct Stream Live TV" uncheck itself. I'm using the HDHomeRun CONNECT as my tuner. If upgrading to the Extend resolves this issue I'm not against that.
RedBaron164 18 Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 I'm running the latest Windows version, Version 3.0.7300.0
ebr 16169 Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 How about the app? What version is that? I'm guessing it is the release version due to your comment about the direct stream option unchecking itself. It will do that if an attempt to direct play from the tuner fails. It then turns the option off and re-tries.
RedBaron164 18 Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 The App version shows as 1.2.31a I had a feeling it was trying and then failed and turned the option off. I also tried enabling Direct Streaming of Live and disabling the VLC option but that didn't work either.

You need to get the beta version. Which is here: https://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20613 On their main site, they still have old version which won't allow direct play. RedBaron164 18 Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) That seems to have fixed livetv, thank you. My firmware was still August of last year. Does time shifting work via the Fire TV app or is it still only working for Chrome/HTML5? When I pause live TV and resume it seems to freak out and I have to go back and re-enter the channel. If I turn off the VLC option it transcodes TV but I'm able to pause and resume live TV. Edited October 4, 2016 by RedBaron164

Right now you will have to be happy with direct streaming until that is worked out.

But if I'm not direct streaming and the show is transcoding and I pause and then resume the show, it works fine.
ebr 16169 Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Time shifting live TV is not supported in this app yet. In fact, I'm surprised it is letting you pause...
RedBaron164 18 Posted October 5, 2016 Author Posted October 5, 2016 Oh, so the fact that it works while I'm transcoding is just a happy accident? In that case I'll let it transcode for now and then when the time shift option comes to Android I'll hopefully be able to turn off transcoding.

Alternatively, could you also record the show, and "time-shift" through it with the recording.
RedBaron164 18 Posted October 5, 2016 Author Posted October 5, 2016 Yeah, I do that for some shows. But the wife likes to watch some shows live and being able to pause for snack/bathroom breaks is pretty important for her. Sent from my R1 HD using Tapatalk
