esseki 12 Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Hi, i have an emby server (version: 3.0.6060.0) installed on a Windows 10 N3050 Intel CPU box with Quick Sync enabled. When i start watching a film that requires transcoding, the movie stops after a few minutes. This happen with the iPad app or with the web client on my Macbook. I did not try other client (like my phone) but i assume the problem would be the same. I have noticed in the transcoding log that the transcode job seems to be stopped for an unknown reason. I would like to mention that : - i have always had this issue with transcoding on this hardware with Quick sync enabled. To me it does not seem to be related to a particular version of the server. - i did not try to deactivate Quick Sync as my goal is to have it working otherwise my CPU will not be powerful enough to handle some of the transcoding jobs - even if it does seem to be similar, i don't think my problem is related to the one mentioned in this thread (http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/37772-playback-quits-spontaneously-after-update-today/) as it did not start with a recent server update (it has been like this since i acquired the N3050 box for the past few months) and it has not been solved with the latest 3.0.6060 update. I have attached two log files retrieved after activating "Enable debug logging" : one is the server log file the second is the transcoding log file. I created a third log file (manual_transcoding.txt) corresponding to the output of the exact same FFMPEG command (retrieved from the transcoding log file) that i launched manually on the box. In this case we can see that the transcoding job does not stop. It makes me think that something in Emby server stops the transcoding when i watch a movie but i don't understand what ?? Tank you in advance for your help. server_log.txt transcoding_log.txt manual_transcoding.txt
Luke 42083 Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Hi, I would check to see if the issue reproduces without quick sync, and/or try setting the in-app bitrate setting back to auto. the transcoding log looks fine to me, it could just be the bitrate is too much.
esseki 12 Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Hi Luke, first of all, thank you for your quick reply I don't understand what makes you think that the in app bitrate is not set to "Auto". I think it is. To make sure i'm not misunderstanding you i have created a screenshot from the web client. I have checked and form the iPad app the settings look the same as the screenshot above. Let me check if i disable Quick Sync, if the problem is the same. I will let you know the result. Cheers Edited August 10, 2016 by esseki
Luke 42083 Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Ok. You could also try lowering the in-app bitrate setting to 1mbps as a test.
esseki 12 Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Hi Luke, i have made a quick test and the result is that without Quick Sync activated, the movie is not stopped. But the transcoding log looks weird. At least to me Please find again two log files retrieved after activating "Enable debug logging" : one is the server log file the second is the transcoding log file. server_log.txt transcoding_log.txt Edited August 10, 2016 by esseki
Luke 42083 Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 the transcoding log looks ok to me. that's what you normally see with the throttling feature.
esseki 12 Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Hi Luke, Ok. You could also try lowering the in-app bitrate setting to 1mbps as a test. For this new test i have done the following : - i have reactivated Quick Sync - i have set a "720p - 1Mbps" value as a Max streaming bitrate in the web client app. - and i have launched the exact same file as for the two previous tests. Video stopped again after 5 min. Please find again two log files retrieved after activating "Enable debug logging" : one is the server log file the second is the transcoding log file. server_log.txt transcoding_log.txt Edited August 10, 2016 by esseki
Solution Luke 42083 Posted August 10, 2016 Solution Posted August 10, 2016 try disabling the transcoding throttling feature. maybe it doesn't work well with quick sync. 1
esseki 12 Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 Hi Luke, thank you so much You found the issue. With throttling disabled, the transcoding is not interrupted and the movie does not stop while playing anymore. I will finally be able to enjoy my movies on my iPad. I think i will love this N3050 little box Hope you will find the reason why throttling does not work with QSV. I have another weird/annoying problem but i will create a new thread for it. Thank you again !!
Luke 42083 Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 We're just going to not use it when hardware encoding is enabled. Thanks for helping.
