Pancho 9 Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) Server Version 3.0.5986.0 (runs on Unraid 6.1.9 Docker) Nvidia Shield TV (6.0 SW version 3.2) Android TV Beta (1.2.25g) After updating to the latest Android TV beta (1.2.25g) today, I am unable to playback (Recorded TV (MP4), MKV movies, etc.) for more than 50-60 seconds without receiving 'Player error encountered, Will Retry'. In addition, when it 'retries' I lose any bitstreaming (DTS enabled in settings) as my receiver now shows PCM (and not DTS or Dolby Digital). I have to stop the program and restart for bitstreaming to work properly. No issues playing the previously mentioned content using Emby Theater (built-in player) or with MPC-HC directly from Unraid share. Also I have zero problems with playback of music, it appears to only affect Movies & TV. Attached is my latest server logs and also utilized the 'SEND LOGS' option within the Android TV interface. Thanks. Pancho server-63604626647.txt Edited July 20, 2016 by Pancho
ebr 16169 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 If you let it go does it continue to play normally after the first retry? If this is happening, it means that the player is reporting an error playing back the video. If you play the same item with the release version, it will probably just fail at that point.
Pancho 9 Posted July 21, 2016 Author Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) Ebr, I opted out of the beta program and rolled back to the 1.2.24g version and you are correct, all video would just stop playing after 60 seconds and freeze on the screen (never resuming). Jumping back into the beta program and installing 1.2.25g, the video would indeed stop after 60 seconds, but would resume playback as well. The bitstreaming falls back to PCM on the resume. I did test on my Android Phone and playback will pause periodically and start again as well (but no error message). No issues with playback direct with Emby Theater or MPC-HC. ebr 16169 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 This can't be "all" of your media that is doing this... The log I saw simply had an error thrown during playback and the new behavior now recovers from that by attempting to play the item via a different method.
Pancho 9 Posted July 21, 2016 Author Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) Unfortunately, it affects ANYTHING I play (outside of music) with the Emby Android TV app. I have tested with 4 different movies (direct stream - mkv), 2 different TV shows (MP4), all either stop playing, freeze completely, or freeze and then jump ahead sometimes 10-30 seconds. Attached is my latest server log to show you the issues. (Also sent the logs within the ANDROID TV interface). No issues playing any of the test files direct with MPC-HC (from my win10 computer) OR from the Nvidia Shield TV device using SPMC. server-63604656000.txt Edited July 21, 2016 by Pancho
Luke 42077 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 You're also using the mono 4.4.X runtime which has some issues, including issues that will affect playback in a negative way. There's a couple options to resolve this. You can drop back to mono 4.2.3.4 which is very stable, or you can use the Emby Server beta channel which has some workarounds for mono 4.4.
Pancho 9 Posted July 21, 2016 Author Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the response. Since I'm running the Docker (with Unraid), is the Server Beta option still viable for those running docker (since I have to edit the container or use force update under advanced view)? Also, how would I go about rolling back to mono 4.2.3.4 (is there a post or steps to complete this)? Edited July 21, 2016 by Pancho
Solution ebr 16169 Posted July 22, 2016 Solution Posted July 22, 2016 Unfortunately, it affects ANYTHING I play (outside of music) with the Emby Android TV app. I have tested with 4 different movies (direct stream - mkv), 2 different TV shows (MP4), all either stop playing, freeze completely, or freeze and then jump ahead sometimes 10-30 seconds. I think Luke has discovered your true issue as this can't be a problem with the new app logic - which is actually making your items play properly in instances where they would just stop with the previous version.
Luke 42077 Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Fyi, in light of the improvements to mono 4.4.1 on the beta channel, we're probably going to get a new stable release out this weekend so that we can get these fixes out to everyone.
